So what type of trouble would you get into if caught?

Just curious...

I'd really like to check out the DOW, as everyone on here seemingly has... lol
Although now it's under someone's control... i'm just curious what type of problems i could encounter in terms of getting caught...

is it just a small fine if you are over 18? can you goto jail...
do most people just tell you to f-off and get off the property?

I'm assuming it depends on how you talk to this person and how you are dressed?

I'm mainly curious because i'd like to photograph this stuff and i'm like the furthest from a problem that these people could encounter... lol

I think it all depends how you are with the officer and what was the situation involved you were in. Dow is harder to go inside theses days. They added plastic to almost every windows. Probably to remove asbestos?

true true...

I ask because i'm considering checking out the dow, but i'm thinking of taking a different approach in that, i'd ask leloft (which i assume owns the building) if i can enter at my own risk and "document" the area type thing...

Dunno what the chances are that they will agree, but i figure it's a first step...

You gotta be slick at getting in.. you gotta be fast, and you gotta remember.. fuck the police, and go in anyways and make sure you dont get caught. There's a million places to hide, and a billion places to run to if you got spotted around there. You can walk around the courtyard these days and nobody minds because there's even cars parked there, and once you get inside you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

You could be 19, 29, or 59. If you're over 18, the legal treatment is the same. Age makes no difference.

That sounds about right to me. The police are not going to go in to hunt you down. If they were called for whatever reason, they would wait for you outside or something, especially DOW. Hey, in october we were up on the roof waiting for the sun to set (me, nel58, Xame and TaP). Plenty of people saw us (mainly me I suspect, I had pink hair and a bright yellow shirt, heh) and no one really gave a damn and we were there for nearly 2 hours. Once you're in the only thing that I would fear are workers, if there are any...

not a very proactive and preventive attitude I think but whatever. I'll send you oranges in jail...

??? The police will not chase you in a huge abandoned complex, such as DOW. I'm certainly not saying that it's a good idea to go on a rooftop like we did in a flamboyant manner, I was only up for 3 minutes (the time to go up the ladder), we were all laying down the rest of the time. People saw us as we were going up, and well I was pretty damn hard to miss. If the cops were to show up, which they didn't, they would not come in and chase us down.

Every time I went out of Dow it was around 3:00pm and the police were on shift change looking at their car, trunk and complaining about they don't want to drive again tonight. I was doing about the same thing 20' further but my shift was done. The never bothered about the guy with a camera coming out from the abandoned lot.

very true, act first, think later. The less you think about it the quicker you get in. I went in July with a couple of friends and the entrance was pretty difficult but we were in in less than 3 minutes, (about two of those minutes belonged to me). We all knew what we were getting into cause I scouted the place the day before. We also made the point of going when the construction workers were on vacation. Once you find an entrance and a good time to go you shouldn't worry, just do it. And once you're in you can fucking bet on it that a cop won't be going in there to chase you around. If anything they'll wait for you at the entrance and you can out wait them. We were in there for three and a half hours in there and didn't encounter any problems.

Hi !

I'm currently studying at the ÉTS for 4 years and I live in the Résidences on Ottawa st. In fact, I have information that will maybe interest many of you.

I went twice in the DOW building (spring 2006). We tried to go back another time, last summer, to watch the "Feux d'Artifices Loto-Québec" from the roof. We didn't know how to get in the building, and by the time we figured it out, someone saw us and called the cops.

So here it is. The cops arrived as we were climbing. 30 seconds later, we were in, but we missed time. So they came to us. They asked what we were doing and since we were calm and honest and we didnt runaway, they been very cool with us. They told us that it was a criminal act, we could get fined, etc. They also asked us to leave our "climbing structure" we built in place, because they had to go in for a round, since people were throwing beer bottles from the roof the week before (idiots). After a 5 minutes talk, they asked us to leave and they didn't say anything, even if we had beer in our packsacks !

That was my little story to answer the question.

Here's additionnal information I heard about the DOW :

ÉTS' security guards are asked to go in when there's people inside making trouble. I don't know why, but I saw firefighters going in twice also (it was not for a fire ) I think the firefighters are the ones called to go in instead of the police when a situation requires an intervention.

You may have noticed offices on one side of the courtyard. They belongs to http://centech.etsmtl.ca. That's why the garage door is sometimes open and cars are parked inside the courtyard. The Centech is sometimes doing presentations open to the public. And they ask people to enter by the garage door of the courtyard. I can try to let you know the next time they are making presentations, if you know what I mean
