| | | Well, I have been bored so decided to check this site out. I know it has been explored by many people on here and pretty ransacked with paintballers. The coolest thing we found was the old furnace.

| | | Anyone done the hospital? They have a fence around it, but it doesn't look all that secure. NOTE: There is a federal installation that remains on that property....it's on the NE corner...some sort of Fed accounting office. The hospital is a good distance from there, just don't get buildings confused!

| | | And this is in Orlando, right? By hospital do you mean that big scary looking building by Baldwin Park? I've drive by one on many occasions that I'd think twice about going in it looks so scarey from the outside!

| | | Yes, this is in Orlando. There is a section that is fenced off but it was broad daylight and we had no place to hide the car. Next time we go we will walk a bit and explore a bit more.

| | | It is now the sprawling and very expensive Baldwin Park. As one of her last F-Orlando moves, then mayor Glenda Hood sold the base property to a developer from NY for pennies on the dollar. The developer has demolished all but two of the base buildings and literally ground up the debris. He has built townhomes, houses, condos, and shops. Most everything is extremely expensive (read $300K+ for a condo). The hurricanes a couple of years ago actually slowed down construction due to a lack of labor and materials. The housing market has just slowed to a crawl and it seems they are struggling to sell units in the development. Furthermore, the community should have been completed by this point, but they still have a long way to go. The base processed recruits for basic training and was home to one of the nuke power schools.

| | | OK...some information on the site in question... About 800 acres at McCoy AFB was transferred to the Navy when the base went into decommission starting in 1971. The area became known as the Orlando Naval Training Center McCoy Annex. It was mostly for personnel support and housing. From what I can gather, the housing was sold by the city to developers who where supposed to renovate the old Navy housing and sell them at below market value. Apparently, the developer didn't do that great of a job and lots of people were screwed in the process. Chalk another F-U Orlando to Mayor Glenda Hood. (Damn good thing her buddy Jeb gave her a job up in tallahassee and she left us alone.) My guess is that the buildings in this post were part of the processing and/or base facilities proper. Most of the housing, if not all of the housing, is still there...as houses. The general area is known as The Villages of Southport. Based on the City's plan, a request for bid should have already been placed to redevelop some 278 acres of former Navy land. I surmise that this includes these areas pictured in this thread. So, need to get out there and get pics while the gettin's good.

| | | Hey I'm a noob here. Has anyone explored the last remaining building at Baldwin Park? It used to be enlisted barracks. I drove by it a couple times before I got interested in UE, actually my trip over to the old military housing by Tradeport got me into UE. I'm ex Navy. I'm trying to drag my buddy who was in the Army into UE'ing old military bases. Be on the look out in the next few years as the bases on the 2005 base closure list start to close.

| | | That aint no Base, thats the Local Hotspot for Paintballing hell! It was a night of street racing when i realized there was about 8 cars parked near that building, we tought they where street racers. as we parked near, they all stoped and came out with their paintball guns like "what do you want". we explained, and then hundreds of cars came arround for races, we met them and they are hardcore, they play at night with lasers and night vision googles, and no limit in pressure or paintballs. we played with them ONCE, and I regret it. BTW the buildings next to that are 100% empty, nothing but a box. and nobody cares if you jump the fence. However there is a high amount of bee hives there, and you dont want to bother them, because you'll have to jump a fence before you get out.
