	Ran a few times as a minor. These days, running will earn me a beatdown if I'm caught. Emergency Room bills are way higher than trespassing fines. I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. 	I've ran, i've hid from, hell, i've even sneaked up on cops. Running is a bad idea, most of the time. Like someone before me said, if you have a serious advantage and they didn't see you, go for it and don't hesitate. Approaching cops always works for me. I've done it time and time again and have just been warned not to go back, or just told it's not safe. I've even gotten a "why?" from a cop. Haha. I've been caught, it's not fun, but then again, i'm a minor for another 6 months... The way i see it is, get in trouble as much as you can until you're 18, then move to social skills. Who doesn't want to shoot fire from their ass?

	I've never ran before, I have been caught three times, once by police, twice by owners of the properties I have been exploring, one of the owners actually talked a while about the house I was in, she didn't mind, the other two times the owners and police just told me to leave.

Here's what happened to me and shutterbug.

Last year, my wife and I were at the house where her sister lived and went in to pick up some of her stuff. Her sister was at work and gave us her keys and the code to the alarm to use and the land lady was aware we were coming. However, the land lady went out and didn't tell her husband who headed out as well and set the alarm.

We opened the door and I heard the first tones of the alarm. We went in to enter the code. The code was not accepted and the alarm went off. My first thought was "Oh sh*t!"

Shutterbug suggested leaving quickly, I said no since there's a good chance the neighbours got our plate number. Better stick around and wait for the cops to show. Scary part was, I almost agreed and took one step to the truck. Sure enough, two cruisers showed up.
I walked over to the cruisers, waved and said "Hi there. This is really embarrassing for us. Can you help?"

Ten minutes later, the alarm was silenced, the cruisers went about their business, we got the stuff we were asked to pick up and were on our way after locking the door and resetting the alarm. Turned out we had written the code down incorrectly. (Oops!)

Can you imagine the ending to this story if we high tailed out of there?

Running is not always a good idea. It can make a bad situation worse. Usually it's best to stop and speak with the person (cop, security guard, owner) and they will usually ask you to leave.

Rent a cops aren't a threat.Once you leave the property they give up and go back for doughnuts.They can call in the local PD but you'll already be long gone.

I just proved it,this cop chased us until we made it through the exit,he then came to a dead stop.We actually made him chase all through the lot and he got lost once and managed to see the tip of the car go around a corner,and floored it again up to us.The reason:I was up on the hill messing around in the overflow lot which has been closed for about 7 years,I dont know why they dont want anyone going up there,all I saw was old junk.I think its funny to mess with mall cops.

	Haven't any of you people seen America's Wildest Police Chases? With that John Walsh dude? "These viscious criminals would rather run over babies than stop for police. Police in those videos get these big hard-ons, and then they drive their cars like maniacs while trying to run some poor bastard off the road because he has issues with addiction. I would not want to be at the receiving end of a video narrated by John Walsh. Unless you've broken into and damaged some kind of high profile location, first offense for trespassing probably wont be more than a "Go home." So don't run, don't admit too much when you talk ("yeah, don't worry, I've got experience doing this" would be a bad idea), and keep a level head when the police officer tells you that you're a piece of shit challenging the safety and sanity of the entire free world by going into old buildings. Surprisingly, all three of these little, in the language of SB, "stnanks", happened on vacation in NH. Staying with a family who we're very close friends with, me and their son were sneaking out every night. Me to smoke pot, him to smoke cigarettes and drink vodka. Anyways, the first encounter was when we were walking by a well-lit parking lot at around 2AM, both of us impaired in some way, we saw a cop who'd pulled over somebody else. He caught our eye and made chase on foot, we hid inbetween some pinetrees (thank god he didn't bring a flashlight), on the side of the road, and he ran right by us. The second time, we were at that same parking lot with a group of other ne'er-do-wells, they were all smoking tobacco and drinking beer, I was sitting there drinking a Mountain Dew. We were far back in the parking lot, and from a distance, a cop driving by the road wouldn't see us well . . . or so we thought. We saw a cop turn to go around behind the stores, and, next thing we knew, before we really had a chance to run, she'd pulled up right in front of us. Luckily, it was dark, so my friend could pass for 18 (he was only smoking cigarrettes atm), I wasn't doing anything, and the other three kids (all 14) were very very very old-looking for their age, and easily could have passed for somebody in their early twenties. They walked up (the old-looking adolescents), she asked what they were doing, they said their friend had just gotten off the night-shift at that store and we were just hanging out. She told us to go home, so we walked away and went into a field to continue our activities. The third time we weren't so lucky. I was quite, quite stoned and my friend was quite, quite drunk. We had been doing these things in a large field behind his house at 3AMish; intoxicated, we walked out the front of the house and down the street. About 10 ft. out of the driveway a cop sees us and pulls us over. He tells us to go back to the house, which we do. Then he suddenly has second thoughts and pulls into the driveway. He had us wake up my parents, etc. etc. shit did NOT got well for us the rest of that vacation, needless to say (at least they didn't know we were doing anything wrong besides sneaking out at night). Back in C'Ville, there isn't much for me to do/see at night, so I have yet to have trouble with Teh Law since then. And if I ever do sneak out again, I'm not going to be stoned, and I'm not going to be walking down a busy road with my hood up acting suspicious You can't fall off a mountain.

I'm so used to the lax attitude of everyone here, I never realised that some places in US care so much about underage drinking/smoking/smoking pot/curfew. It's funny because I'm hearing your story, but none of it sounded really illegal or bad to me.

If we're counting encounters with police where you're doing minor things, I've been in tons of encounters. I've already mentioned that I was surrounded twice. I've been arrested once (turned out charge was lifted, so it was all good).
