| | Two mines in Joshua Tree National Park < on 6/22/2006 1:16 AM >
| | | The first 10 are the Lost Horse Mine which is on the official map and has a nice trail going to it. The last 5 are the Desert Queen mine which is off the map, and requires a long scramble up two good sized hills. All the open mine shafts are very deep and completely vertical, so I explored none of them. Watch out around the Desert Queen, since I came across at least 5 completely unmarked and unsealed shafts which would be 100% fatal if you fell in one (#15 just had a metal bar in front of it.) Pics are from February. 1--

| | | God you're giving me a chubby! Great photos and vey nice location. I've got to get out to Cali and hit some mines.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

| | | Agreed, its good stuff. I have GOT to get a website up and running. Sites like that make me realize there are people out there just as crazy as me.

Thats my stomping grounds...day and time baby, I'll show you the Supply mine (has a car wedged in the shaft) and the Virgina dale mine (not much left) as well as a dozen other smaller mines. and thats only about 10 sq miles, the rest I haven't even explored yet!! A buddy and I tried to go out there by using some half-a$$ed maps from a ghost-towns website. Considering it was 10 at night and another friend was chastising us for not helping him babysit, we drove all over the Palm Springs area for a good four hours. Screw the truck, I'm bringing a mountain bike out there. Those new Tioga's aren't going to wear themselves out!!

| | | Excellent post. Unfortunate that it's 150 degrees in the shade out there right now. :/ I'm really impressed with how well preserved everything at that mine is. I've yet to see a stamp mill that rivals anything close to that. I'd like to think the interior of the mine is something close to as good.
out there in the world right now, someone is exploring... |
