CERN steam tunnels

Hi all. Couple of members of our group visited CERN, the world's largest particle physics research center, some time ago. There's a lot to see as an average tourist, and also as an urban explorer. The gates are guarded, but there's practically no security inside the fences. There's an easy access to all areas in the facility, even the steam tunnels can be accessed without obstacles. The offices are locked, but the doors to mechanical rooms etc. are almost always open. There's also a route to door of an accelerator (Proton Synchrotron) without any "access prohibited" or any other signs. We visited CERN with permit, but it's not impossible to infiltrate there, in fact, it can be surprisingly easy. Anyway, here's some photos:

Exploring the service tunnels of CERN is really something to brag about. Yet another great achievement for you group.

About the pics, short explanations would've been nice, even though most of the pics are self-explanatory. Those movable archive shelves remind me of our local library. They were fun to play with when I was a kid... *cough*. And is that sign in the third picture about the danger of steam leak you mentioned in the video?

All information and details given in good faith but not guaranteed!

Yes, it's the same sign. The mentioned CERN tunnel video might be available with English texts soon. But its quality is not very good. Those stairs in the 7th picture, by the way, are photographed from the steam tunnel: there's not even a door between the tunnels and the open air.

Hmmm, I have a cousin who works at CERN, time to get the address book out...

If only I had the money for an airfare...

Urban Explorers always take the red pill...
