| | | What have been your experiences with places getting resealed and or getting new security measures? In the past week, we found that of our best sites had been closed up. Talk about bad luck... The first site, a hospital, the doors we used to come in through have now been boarded and chained shut. The other site is the Marine Stadium, they posted a security guard that seems to be there all the damned time now(possibly not on weekday nights, but we haven't checked yet). Finally, the Monte Carlo hotel was also boarded shut and they spraypainted "KEEP OUT" several times on the new board. These all must have been sealed within the past month or so. I found it kind of strange that all of these places would all of a sudden decide to put up new security measures. I'm a bit worried that someone who works for the city found my website and are actively closing the places we visit. As a precautionary measure, I will not be posting any new places to my site or mentioning them anywhere until we have seen everything that we want to see at a site. It could also be related to Halloween coming up, and places beefing up security for that, but it really didn't seem that way as some of these sites are pretty remote and 2 of the 3 that were sealed have hardly had any visitors other than us in a while.

| | | After I got caught tunneling my freshman year, our entrance actually stayed open for quite a while. Another group heard about us and went exploring using the same entrance, they did some stupid stuff too, but I don't think the university found out about them. The entrance didn't get sealed untill a third group went in, got drunk, and ended up in a student trap under the power plant. After that it was the end of easy tunnel access from that end of campus. This summer I found an old abandoned tunnel system that was rumored locally to be haunted and/or used by satanists, according to the teenagers and others I talked to in the area it hadn't been accessible since the late 90s. I managed to find an entrance (a hole formed by years of erosion) in the last few minutes before I had to leave the town, but when I went back a week later it had been bulldozed over! I did find another erosion hole, but it's not big enough yet to allow entrance. That one really pissed me off, I was all set to explore the system and ended up stuck in a tiny town with absolutely nothing to do.

Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years.

| | | I think Halloween is a big reason why some places might be beefing up their security. It would be a good time for explorers to get out there and scout out a questionable location to see what 'tight security' means for some of their prospective or favourite locales. C.

| | | Some of my best places have become inaccessible in the past year but I don't *think* it has anything to do with me. Standard Industries battery factory has been renovated and is being used, the city built a new building next to The Longhorn Quarry and added security and the Lone Star Brewery has always been partially active but through some speculation I believe they didn't add security until a crime of some sort was committed there (crime scene evidence tape, missing doors, mysterious pools of dried up dark liquid)

| | | Rev - someone probably stole the beer, hence the dried up dark liquid =P But yeah, I understand what you mean... there are a couple of places down here that I passed by and have walked through, though not extensively, and can no longer get to because of the beefed up security. A couple of the places up at PU, well, we can't go there like we used to because, well, they're finished building them. [last edit 10/23/2003 5:43 PM by DarkTreader - edited 1 times]

Well I know it's probably not but it did resemble dried blood. I checked and it was definitely not dripping from the ceiling. I know it can't be though because the crime scene tape was in a completely different area and usually they would clean up something like that even if it were in an abandoned place. Who knows, maybe it was beer. In any case, it's not impossible but just more difficult to go there.

That's generally a good idea. It's very tempting to shout, "Look what I did!" right after you find something, but a little self-restraint can be more rewarding in the end.

I would personally blame the upcoming FTAA conferences. The security around the Miami area is going to be INSANE for those... to the point that the entire downtown area may effectively shut down for two weeks.

| | | I wouldn't be surprised if cities made a habit of securing abandoned buildings in the fall, before the weather worsens and theres an increase in would be squatters. Though florida is blessed with mild winters, they probably still see an influx of squatters from other states. Caput_58
