Just found these old pictures from a trip a while ago. The Palace Hotel is a local abandonment here in Ukiah, I just found out its actually a National Landmark. I dont know too much about its history, not for lack of looking mind you but I can't seem to find all that much. Anything one of you find with your superior resources would be appreciated.

I'm not sure, but I think this fella http://www.flickr....os/gwen/118020887/ may have graced these halls at one time.

If so, it's a very old structure and allowing it to decay so is absolutely criminal. Then again, I'm sure a new Walmart would look so much better on that spot of land...

I must say that this sort of documentation is exactly what UE is all about for me: photographing beautiful buildings with character and history which greedy developers can only see as impediments to their development schemes. And you're rewarded for alerting people to the wanton destruction of true beauty by being called a vandal yourself by the authorities.

Sorry, got off on kind of a rant, but I do like your photos and I hope to see more of your pix of that location sometime.

Thanks!

The Palace Hotel in San Francisco is not the one mentioned in this thread, though it holds its own charm (Palace, San Francisco is on ghostkilla's last two links). Palace in Ukiah sounds like fun. Looking forward to checking it out.

I'd believe it, even though this is one of the coolest places i've ever had the privilege to explore it is also indentical to the house in every scary movie you've ever seen. Walking from room to room I swear you can see the proceedings of the hotel while it was still active.

I've read all the threads and tried doing some searching on the web for this site.

This site does seem to have landmark status.

-I am curious: Is this place still standing? (you mentioned that the photos were taken from a "past trip").

-Is this in an area where you can enter during the daytime? is there a lot of traffic/people in the near area?
(how easy/difficult would say it is to infiltrate)?

-Tunnelbug, you mentioned that it has similar charm to the SF palace hotel.. is the SF palace hotel abandoned also?

...I see another field trip brewing...

Sadly, the Palace, San Francisco was recently restored, and now serves guests.

The palace is still standing I walk by it quite often in fact. Unfortunately it is right in the middle of town but in a small town like ukiah after about 10 the streets are deserted. We went in during the daytime but it was a VERY slow day in ukiah. As far as entrance i've seen too many vandals in the palace so if you want specific details i'm afraid you'll have to PM me.

One of my best friends/old roommates lives in Ukiah and had this to say:

"The place still exists -- it's on State Street in Ukiah, but it's all boarded up. It's made of bricks and therefore unsafe in an earthquake. It's a historical building, so therefore too expensive to buy. . I don't know what's the story on it for the future. It would be great opened up again. IT's just gathering dust as it is."

I guess meth chic is the name of the game on the inside.

Ahhh, yeah, the Palace.

Back when my friends were living in the apartments across the street from the palace, (upstairs apts formerly known as, the carter), i am talking rite now to someone who -may- have done a piece of graffiti there. this ricks, I was on this site 1st looking at badass Japan stuff, and now... we come back near home! anyways, wanted to say that i saw some cool lights through the windows of the palace, and my friends have reported things out of the ordinary at the palace, and i'd love toi dig up more stories and if i find more, i'll let ya know.
by the way, this is my second post on this board, total.

I'm from 95422 area.

peace out yall.

What a bizarre comment! I know it sorta sux to loose a cool place to explore, but isnt having something restored better than having it dozed into another parking lot?

HA HA. If you know the mind set of the average urban explorer, you will know that we'd rather have things remain abandoned. However, I am happy for its restoration, as you can read from my previous comment, I think it still holds its own charm.
