Not entirely new to urban exploring, but entirely new to train hopping in North West Florida.

So, I am just a youth bobbing in divided seas of society struggling not to drown. My lifesavers have been CrimetInc zines, philosophy books, random gatherings, randomly explored buildings, and so on and so forth. But I'd like to take this a step further with train hopping for various reasons; networking, adventure, simply living, and basic transportation... besides... you never know when you may need to hop a train, I suppose.

I have never hopped before (apparently) and I know of no one who has either and there is only one person I know at the time that would be able to go with me if I left fairly soon and even that isn't much of a possibility (being accompanied, that is) So... I was wondering if anyone would like to give me advice on picking hopping alone, train locations, train navigation, and if there are any people or communes that would be interested in participating?

Intuition calls as does the tracks, so why should I ignore it? No point in doing so, eh?

I am (once again) in the North West Florida region and I am possibly looking to go further South in Florida or in some neighboring states in search of meditation, interesting folk, shared tales and conversations ever lasting, communes, and adventure.

Thank you in advance...hah... I just felt as though I filled out an application.

I too have an interest in train-hopping, but I can honestly say I have done so... Yet. Anyways, I just googled "train hopping" and found some old 'zines, and webpages. Anything is pretty helpful, but I did not exactly find awesome sources of information or anything. At any rate, I will try and see if I can find some of the better sites and what not. When you do hop a train, be safe, and good luck! I envy you

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freight_hopping - Wikipedia rules, and it links to what I found to be the best resources. Still google some more, and research all you can. I would advise against going alone, especially since you are a young female. After reading about it, it was not as romantic as I thought, but regardless I was not turned off. Dress warm, and do everything everyone tells you to for the most part (blah blah blah) and you ought to be alright.

Read hopping freight trains in America by Duffy littlejohn, you might be able to check it out at your local library, The Art and science of Dumpster diving by John Hoffman is also super valuable.
as is www.crimethincx.tk
You might be able to find out about stuff if you go to your local Food Not Bombs ( http://www.foodnotbombs.net/ ), or Industrial Workers of the World (my local is... http://edmonton.iww.ca/
You will likely find a new ue crew, I went on my first ue adventure 4 years before I found this site.
