It would be interesting to go and listen in on that to see if any sort of historical preservation is going on.... or if we could capture some of it for them ;)

I sent an email to that site awhile back and recieved a kind of nasty email back about how it's illegal to tresspass.

Just be careful, they may not share the same love of tresspassing in order to view historical places as we do!

according to the contractors I spoke to (which means this is complete hearsay, obviously) the only structure on site that is being preserved is the Officer's Club, which previously was a clubhouse for the golf course that proceeded the hospital onsite. they thought it would be used as a clubhouse again for a small onsite (9 hole, i think) golf course that the developers want to put in.

take it for what it's worth...

Having been through a couple environmental review processes myself, one way to maybe get invited is to pressure the city and the developers during the environmental review process to preserve as much historical/cultural resources at the site as possible. Now they probably won't be able to do so, but if you get it on record that people think there is something worth saving there, then they'll have to address those concerns in their EIR. One outcome could be that they'd have to mitigate the impacts of demolishing these buildings, and some kind of inventory/documentary process could be required. They might also propose to do things like make some kiosks on site with pictures or interpretive materials on how things used to look, and that's where explorers could come in handy.

In all likelihood they'd hire a professional firm to handle any such mitigation, but even if we didn't get in again, at least some of the memories might get preserved.

If anyone has the time and energy to pursue this I'd be glad to provide additional pointers on how to get involved and get your comments on record.
