I didn't really consider this type of trip UE, but I notice there are several similar forts in the DB, so I thought I'd post some photos. All were shot in early 2001 during a scuba trip the the Florida keys. I must confess it is nice to have a friend with an airplane! Makes photos and travel much simpler. These were shot on 35mm and then scanned on my crappy Pentax scanner. Sorry for the marginal quality.

Aerial of the fort as we flew over on the way out.

Hotshot furnace for heating cannon shot to burn up wooden ships

Sally port. Used by defenders to exit the fort to repel attacks.

Looking southeast down the dry ditch that protected the fort from infantry assault

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Very nice. Reminds me of Fort Pulaski in Savannah. Where did you dive at in the Keys? I went spring of last year to Isla Morada (sp?) and had a blast. We dove there, spent two days in Key West, then came back and dove there again.
