| | | Has anyone ever ventured into them? I've been down on the level of the tracks before, but never gone into where the station ends and the tunnels begin. Mostly I was just wondering if there's space to let trains pass when they come by before I try.

| | | I thought about it before. but i really don't think its a good idea especially with all the paranoia surrounding the subways

I know that there are the emergency walkways on the sides for when trains break down, and I suspect that you can fit on one and have a train pass, but I don't think it would be a very good idea. The train operators would most likely notify BART police immediately when they saw you, and the trains would be shut down for safety reasons. If you are talking about doing it some time when trains aren't running it might work, but still might not be a very good idea.

| | | man it would be very cool to explore, but yes this sounds extremely risky to me. With all the terror threats and paranoia (sp?) getting caught would surely send you to jail. Personally I wouldn't try this. However, does anyone know anyone who works for bart and can give us a tour? I used to have a friend who worked for a construction company that was hired to do some work on the GG bridge... he was able to give me a tour off hours of some of the service areas on the bridge... it was very very cool.

| | | Be aware that BART actually has a "police force" and they carry the same attitude (we'll kill you and make up some kind of official excuse) as all cops. Cops have been killing hella citizens lately in the Bay Area. Careful!

| | | I agree with Yuichi, BART police are worse than the Oakland PD. They cover a huge territory (most of the Bay Area). They patrol 250 sq. miles (104 miles of track with a mile easement on each side for enforcement) and except for the California Highway Patrol, cover more ground on any given day than any other police force in California (and most states/countries). You run into them while in the tunnels and there will be no way to talk your way out of it. You will be arrested for various terrorism related charges until they find the 'correct' felony to charge you with. No matter what, it is better to completely avoid them and stay out of their way. They are more known as cowboys than police.

| I'll look into it, I know my mother's office works fairly closely with them and through her office I have managed to get tours of the new Bay Bridge and Port of Oakland. In addition, through my school I have gotten tours of the new Bay Bridge (yes, I've been on two tours of it in the past year) and Benicia Martinez. It might be possible to get some tours of BART stuff, I really don't know.
for anyone who wants official tours of stuff, I highly recommend majoring in Civil Engineering.

| | | I just moved back to san francisco, I'll try and track down some old mates here who've done some crazy shit running through BART and MUNI. I know it can be done, but as everyone has said bart police are not to be fucked with. Although, does anyone remember a year or two back when some guy robbed bank in oakland, ran down into bart, jumped in the tunnels and was never caught? I remember because I had to wait like 4 hours to get a ride home, bart was closed down for most of the day.
