Jenkins Fence off

Another little update on a location.

It seems they've gotten to the length of fencing off Jenkin's Valve. If you want to access it, you gotta climb a very small-holed fence, or go around other industries to do so.

My guess is they did this to make selling the place easier, or just getting ready to demolish it.

Have a look if you're in the area.

The administration section is still there, accessible for exploration. Boring yeah I know, but its better than nothing I guess.

its been a while, but
i was there the other day, theres not any real point of visiting that place anymore, sure the admin buildings are cool for 12 year olds but its really just nothing without the production buildings. Is there any news on what their gonna do with the site?

when the building is completely torn down.. the site will be transformed into a field of garbage and scrap that will uselessly sit and rot as a decorative welcoming to lachine. most likely for a while anyways.

the last thing in the media i was able to find was the person responsable for buying it for taxes last year has now defaulted and it has reverted back to the city. sounds to me like someone who bought it to tear it down for the steel and then just walked away and the city is back on hook for the dirty property

fall apart its already gone to hell, the latest suggestion was to pave the property to at least cap the toxins

ahahahahahah, I'm re-reading my post and I understand why it is someone told me this was old news.

I made it sound like I'm describing the usual fencing. I meant the fencing that is put around about-to-be-demolished buildings or under-construction sites.

It goes all the way to the sidewalk now. It's a nasty piece of scenery, but then again, Jenkins wasn't very beautiful to begin with.

the guy who bought it for taxes, "encheres auto st pierre" wanted to put an asphalt recycling company there, permit refused, tore the building down for the steel, and well walked away

News update:

Most of the building are destroyed. I will try to get some pictures tomorrow.

Also, the official news is that they are going to decontaminate the place and transform it in a major house area.

Ah AH!

These are surely not going to be HLM, my guess is more likely to be town house.

I live in that area in a <nice> condo project. Right next to my condo complex, there is another old factory that is going to be recycled as a condo project. The industrial area of Lachine is getting a lot of interest because:
- 10mins from downtown (montreal that is)
- quick access to the 20 to go on the west island
- proximity to the water

Seriously, if you forget all the crappy houses in the area (and there are a lot of them), this is a great place to be. The area is improving a lot and will even get better with the development of all these projects.

BTW what is the company in the big white building next to Jenkins? I thought it was empty but I saw some light there tonight so it cant be deserted.

yeah well if condos won't sell... I dont think a house would either, since a house is more expensif...

Thinking about it, its not realy a nice area to live in!!!
