Watch out for live power in the abandoned power plant, there is still juice running through some of the stuff and you can get electrocuted if you grab/touch the wrong thing. I would STRONGLY advise against touching any switches/knobs/etc. Also be mindful of the motion detectors, there are several (especially on the bottom floor).

"Because there's no possibility of real disaster, real risk, we're left with no chance for real salvation. Real elation. Real excitement. Joy. Discovery. Invention. The laws that keep us safe, these same laws condemn us to boredom. Without access to true chaos, we'll never have true peace. Unless everything can get worse, it won't get any better." -Chuck Palahniuk

i just got on the forums and was curious to see if there was any mention of splendid china. it's pretty amazing. when i was there, there was a light on in a cave-like room.. i don't know what that was about. but yeah, any florida explorers who get a chance should check it out if you haven't.

Hello.

I went to Splendid China in June (or late May) with Carrie and Brian (who just got married, BTW) of HauntedPA. We were there for the DegGi5 great race. There was some construction going on, and almost everything was torn out and auctioned off.

When we went during SEX Fest, about 15 people ended up vaulting the wall to escape the wrath of the caretaker in his pickup truck. There was lots of little figurines then.

The HauntedPA folks managed to get their hands on (through auction) some of the Terra Cotta warriors, along with other various pieces of miniaturized Chinese history.

Sometimes, you need to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don't know what your rights are, or who it is you're talking to. Then, on your way out, slam the door.

I would recommend staying away from the Loral plant...a relative of mine works for the environmental company that was contracted to do cleanup of the Tallevast area and I heard that there's nasty stuff there.

Sunland Tallahassee is on my way to and from work. It's a cool looking building from the outside but I've never been in it. With the completion of the Blairstone Extension, explorers are now basically in sight of the FDLE headquarters. Plus a lot of the staff at FDLE use the Philips Road gate (now that there is a light there) so it's pretty risky to do that. A few people got caught there a few months ago, so both the city cops and the county sheriff's dept rolls by there on patrol.

Tallahassee in general isnt very conductive to urban exploration. There are no abandoned power plants, (the first one built in town was expanded and renovated...before that we bought power from regional plants) the airport has no facilities worth mentioning, and we have very little industry.

There are two college campuses (technically 3 including the community college,) although both are fairly well locked down and both have pretty good security (FSU is a state school and such, so the FSUPD are actually a branch of the FDLE.) I'm sure there's stuff down there worth exploring, but as I'm not a student I'm not very familiar with the area.

Wow, it's been months since I've been here and people are still posting. Beautiful.

So my urban exploration adventures went on a nice long hiatus, as I can't drive and my designated driver lost interest for a while. As a result, I still haven't gone to even one of those places on my list.

However, just last weekend my explorations started up again when a friend and I stumbled on a beautiful old apartment building completely by accident, the way I suppose explorations went pre-internet. I'm desperate to know more about it, though...so if there are any explorers from Sarasota still hanging around here, have you ever been to this marvelous little apartment complex just off Fruitville road, directly across from Tatum Ridge Elementary? I want to know what it was called, when it was closed, and I have no clue where to start looking for information like that. Any possible help is very appreciated.

Secondly, I'm heading up to Orlando next weekend, and looking for a few things to explore in that area. Xanadu is the only definite one on my list. Suggestions, anyone? Keep in mind that these should be fairly low-risk areas on all levels, as my only exploring partner will be my mother...
