Did you know...

Did you know, that the Raphael Motel on st jacques, the one close to mcdonalds, the rooms are actually boxcars. when they designed the motel they put boxcars and cut holes and stuff for the doors and windows and then built around them.

The red brick building of the malt plant, there are windows that are covered in bricks, those windows were always sealed. They did not need light at that process and the architect decided to still have the window outlines so it would be pleasing to the eye. also those window "holes" aren't even proportional o the actual floors.

anyone else have fun facts?

the raph is boxcars are you sure? i remember when those 8 rooms went up in smoke 20 years ago, there was no sheetmetal that i could see,

st jacques street is a treasure trove, the big building next to the new ford dealer was a pontiac dealer for years, it was also a gm truck center, finally closed as a car dealer in 1993 after the launch of the 94 line, it was most recently mullins pontiac, before that terry pontiac. the midas muffler on st jacques had a huge explosion in 1987 that killed 1 worker and left the place a skeleton, the loblaws was built on the site of montreals premier adult motel, Nittolos and it had the nittolos garden restaurant on the corner next to the old tavern also torn down for the loblaws, the tilden rent a car on the corner of cavendish had been an esso for years, hmm what else, the reason for all the motels on st jacques is because it used to be the main road into montreal before the 20 was built, it gave us classics such as the raph, the belvedere, the west end motel, and many others, and my personal favorite the Colibri

I think there's people who live at the Raph. too. I've seen people walk back with grocery bags and such - I believe you can rent monthly.

hey It's 4 hours for 20 bucks

and that is the trucker district... what do you expect? it's intended for people such as truckers to stop and shower, and get some rest.. or what is more probable is it's used as a place to bring a hooker.

at the demolished hotel st jaques, they filmed the season finale of Les Bougons, a show that makes fun of people on welfare. Very good, they always find a way to "crosse" the system.

YEah its like a french Tabenrak esti seperitst version of trailer park boys. St jacques is an interesting street, but its really been cleaned up, from hookers and the mafia (The Nittolo Family) its now a dull dumbed down place.
