| | | | I agree that after a while these buildings have to go. If someone can use the land or shells then go for it. I love the malt plant as much as the next guy and will hate to see it go but would love someone to spend money there to built something productive.

yeah, and they'd be partially wrong.
The biggest problem with real-estate people is that they don't understand anything about land value, communities, and planning.
They only understand money.
Urban development is what happens when the planners are trying to figure out what to do. By the time they have it sorted, the development has already happened. |

The plant is going to be very hard to take down, though. The proximity of both McAussie, and the Roofing guy, as well as the nearby houses will make the demo pretty difficult. The other thing that's preventing the property from being "liquidated" is the roofer himself. He sits on a corner piece of land that would be needed for any factory expansions of the McAus plant, so he'd have to go too. You couldn't put housing there for the same reasons; who would want to live in a place that's sandwiched between 2 industrial lots?
Either the whole area goes housing, or the whole area stays industry, otherwise it won't work.

last time i was there, the original way to get in was closed up, but there was another simple way in. it's starting to really look like the dow is breathing its last breaths, though.
