Respirator cartrdiges/filters life...

I bought a respirator with its P100 cartridges/filters (3M 60926) , and on the box of the cartridges/filters it says :

Time Use Limitations:

if cartridge/filter become damaged, soiled, or breathing becomes difficult, leave the contaminated area immediatly and replace the cartridge/filters. if used in environments containing only oil aerosols, replace cartridge/filters after 40 hours of use or 30 days , whichever is first .

http://www.tricon-env.com/60926cart.htm

------
now my question is , do i have to throw away the filters/carttrdige after 30 days of opening them and using them occasionaly even if I didnt use them for 40 hours (most usage will be abandonned places obviously) or does this rule only apply for oi aerosols environments ? ( after each use im gonna clean them, repack them and close them air tight )

edit: I am mostly gonna use the mask in asbestos contaminated areas ... and im not planning on buying a new one each 30 days even if i only use it for like 3 hours .

I think this mainly applies to chemically active cartridges, charcoal, ones made for filtering gasses, etc. I can't imagine that a basic particulate filter like a base P100 would degrade if it was stored such that no air was passing through it; it's basically a HEPA filter.

Put them in a ziplock bag when stored. There saying that to sell more filters.

I've been feeling funny since I went in that open crypt. Not sure what it is.

Not entirely. Activated charcoal and other decontaminating substances (I think I just made up a new term) will lose effectiveness from exposure to air. A ziplock will help, but they will lose effectiveness from chemical irritants. For your purposes I don't think you need to change it all the time, but don't go thinking that stuff is all a lie to sell more filters.

Yeah , im not going to use it for painting or at a chemical lab ,im just gonna use it when ueing in a asbestos and lead paint particals contaminated area, so its gonna still be good even if the charocoal thingy is activited the particals will still be filtered but any chemical stuff wont , which is pretty good.
