I have been playing around with my Lytro camera. It is new to me and I haven't gotten very far with it.
Just wondering if anybody has experience they might share.
So far, this little thing has been pretty amazing.

When it first came out my employer picked one up and told me to shoot with it. I used it to capture attention on our social media feeds.

My impressions were thus:

1) It is the next step in camera evolution.

Being able to refocus after the fact is something that will appear in more cameras in the future. How many people do you know use a camera to just "point, shoot, and pray" that the picture turns out? This will be most helpful to the entry level set if their technology is picked up by Canon/Nikon/Sony/etc.

2) It suffers being a first-mover.

The concept is so new that most people are unfamiliar with the possibilities. The resolution is too low to actually do anything serious. The proprietary software required to work with the photos needs to be more open source.

3) Lytro can be compelling if used in novel ways.

The photos I took garnered a lot of attention in the short run. In the long run I ran out of creative things to do and it sat on the shelf. I'm certain in the hands of a more creative professional it could have continued to be useful.
