| | The Story of My First Exploration < on 1/5/2014 3:16 AM >
| | | Here's a little story about me. I came to America a month and a half ago to be with my girlfriend. Always been a good little Canuck, living in a quaint little community by the lake. Nothing much to see or do there. So, as one would expect, I had no idea what UrbEx was or why anyone would ever want to do such a thing. Until she showed me into town. My girl drove us through town, first past the lush little coastline, then through the downtown. After a while, we ended up in the underbelly of town. And then I saw it: 1.
A beautiful stack protruding elegantly from the dismal buildings. I asked her about it. "Oh, it's just some old factory that closed, like, a hundred years ago." So, naturally, I asked to drive around it. I found huge red walls and fences ensnaring the entire complex. But towering above were buildings, cracked and weathered by time. I needed to see more. I recruited a friend (who consequently introduced me to my little lady when he moved to America) to look around with me. Let's call him Dudley. Dudley Do-Right. Dudley told me that he had always been interested in the plant, but never could find a way in. So, naturally, we went snooping. Walls on three sides, the fourth blocked by train tracks. So, naturally, we found a bridge nearby and walked the tracks. And the fence was missing a panel... 2.
And we cautiously began wandering about the exterior... 3.
4.
Notice that little hole in the wall? We decided to take a peek... 5.
It was some sort of huge tank! So, we began to slink along the wall. 6.
7.
8.
I was really taken aback by the still beauty of this place. We saw a ladder, and thought about getting a look from above. 9.
But then we saw the condition of the surrounding ceiling. 10.
I know now that there is roof access deeper into the complex. 11.
We then noticed this... 12.
...and realized that this place has an interior. 13.
So, I asked Dudley Do-Right if we could go in. He then told me why this place was closed: shut down after making asbestos gaskets for decades. I'm investing in a respirator so I can keep trekking. I'll post results. But until then, we satisfied ourselves with the exterior. 14.
15.
16.
I was in absolute awe. Hooked. 17.
This place was speaking to me. I could hear it...wait, those were voices. Shit. We had company, and this didn't seem like the place for friendly get-togethers. Being true blood Canadians, we didn't want any altercation. So we did what any grown men would do. Bolted through the nearest exit and ran like little bitches. 18.
And that's our story. I've been chatting and exploring around here, made some good friends with some handsome people (I'm talking to you, Rust, Harvestman, and HerbLauer), and I'm ready to return. Stay cool, friends. Until next time!

| | | Good story. Make sure you don't reveal POE's (points of entry). The locals get pissy when you do that. Good luck on the return visit.

Worry not, my friend. The aforementioned bridge is well hidden, and well out of the way. And it took some serious rooting to actually get inside after that. @Lostfox and @DanTheMac, many thanks for your support! I'm certain I'll enjoy it! @Sleeperspirit, up in Northwest PA, about eight hours away. If I'm ever in Bethlehem, I'll be sure to notify you!

Also, I did have a photo of where the fence is and where I got access to the fence was, but after visiting AvChat and getting an "Initiation"...*shudder*...I've figured out the golden rules. But thanks for the pointers! And did I double post? Sorry if I did...
