Up North

On a road trip way up north, DtEWsacrificial and I were coming back and decided to meander and drive the long way. We came across a small set of mossy buildings. We met some German hitchhikers; who were picking up trash in trade for a ride. We also met a neighbor living in a tiny shack. One of the buildings near the road was supposedly a diner (that didn't make the cut of good photos) and others were a mix of small stores and cabins for mill workers.

Nice sets guys.. #'s 1 & 5 in both sets do it for me.

What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy, and joy is, after all the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money, we eat and make money to be able to live. That is what life means and what life is for. - George Mallory.

Lovely sets guys, thanks for sharing. I find that some of the stuff I locate just mucking about and keeping my eyes peeled end up being some of my favorites.

Thanks Talisman! Thanks decrepitude - I agree that unexpected explores often lead to interesting finds.

Nice! Love those impromptu explores. The chainsaw in the tree in number one is just crazy.

Thanks, all. We weren't really trying for abandonments that time, but we had all our camera gear, and this was just too interesting to pass up.

We figured that the chainsaw was a sword-in-the-stone kinda thing.

Lovely shacks guys!
I am fond of mossy roofs (like Aetna resort)
Did you pick up the hitchhikers?

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

No, the Germans already had a ride and was working that off with the trash-picking.

Funny thing was that as we chatted with them, the girl confessed that the whole dilapidated backwoods/abandonment thing was creepy. I think STC and I had a synchronized brow-arching and told them that's precisely the sort of thing (and even creepier things) we go running into.

In retrospect, maybe we had obliviously walked into (and out of) a backwoods horror movie and those hitchhikers were later skinned and eaten by their hosts. *shrug*

Ha! I've often wondered if there's something wrong with all of us, some mental chip missing. Once I drove a relative by Stillwell Hall in the Presideo and the thought of me inside there made her wanna puke.

Don't knock it before you've tried it.

I'm glad that first one made the cut...

But really, this is awesome...the trees, the truck, the trike...it's terrifically titillating.

No, Ethan, I don't have your lens cap...
