Do image hosting sites darken your photos?
< on 9/30/2013 12:54 AM >

I've been posting with photobucket, and it seems that I've been losing quality/color depth when posting compared to the images on my computer. Is this a common thing? It's not a big deal for me, but when I'm impressed by my shot, and then post it I want others to see what I see, ya know?

I have had the same problems with Photofuckit in particular. Everything appeared much darker and less saturated than I had processed it. Side by side comparison proved it. I immediately stopped using it and switched to flickr.

I've never noticed this problem with Photobucket, and I've been using it for years. I can't stand the interface on Flickr and even the name annoys the shit out of me.

The interface does blow donkey nuts. It wasn't so bad last year. They screwed it up big time.

Make sure your saving your JPGs with the sRGB colorspace rather than AdobeRGB or anything else. sRGB is really the only colorspace that is fully supported across all browsers.

Photobucket's white background could fool you into honking your photos look darker than they do in ps (especially if you're using ps6). Photobucket is a stupid place to host your photos. Flickr is what you should be using. You can upload whatever size you want and you get 1 terabyte of free space.

Here's a side by side photobucket vs Flikr. Also thanks Relux, I never would have thought about that.

Photobucket.

Pretty dramatic.. And all saved as the same jpeg format. I was pretty sad when my Detroit trip photos were looking dull and boring. Now its been over 24 hours so I cant even modify my post. Ah well ya live n ya learn!

They look way different on my screen, I think it might be a browser thing but either way the picture on flickr looks much more saturated and defiantly brighter to me. I see your point

you can't arrest me, I'm a rockstar

There's a hot chick in the passenger seat of the Lexus in the first one, but in the second one, there's just a dead baby.
