Oliver Tunnels?

Alright I know someone who is part of the construction crew rebuilding the school that burnt in Oliver. He was telling me yesterday that the school had tunnels that ran from under the school to town center somewhere so that in the times the school was first opened students and teachers would be able to escape in case of some kind of threat. The school district had them fill in the entrances on the school side because they said the tunnels were unsafe. He told me he seen them himself.
Has anyone heard anything like this?

I actually went to this high school I heard stories about the tunnels that went from the high school all over town all through elementary school. When I got to high school I was SO excited to figure out how to see them. I even heard that the tunnels went all the way down to the hospital.

I have been underneath the school (a few awesome teachers took us down) more than once. Many of the "tunnels" are just large rooms full of things like typewriters, boxes, old tables, etc. And - they do not (at least from what I saw and heard) actually go around town.

I was home this Christmas and saw the new school. I have no idea if they were able to keep the basement/tunnely area after the fire.

We had the same sorta thing in the town I grew up in (Jordan, Ontario) - my friends and I found them while exploring a huge abandoned winery/warehouse complex, back in the early 80s. Apparently this was common in many small towns back around the late 1800s/early 1900s. Most were filled in during the late 90s, but there's still at least one going from the local bar to the former post office.

Pretty cool stuff - go check it out if you can. (Oliver, not Jordan, lol)
