Hydrophobic Coating - Useful for Draining?

Hydrophobic materials protect objects from water and other liquids. Piss, for example. A $20 aerosol can of hydrophobic spray just hit the market. I haven't tried this stuff before (I want to), but I imagine that this would be quite useful for draining. Coat your uberboots and gloves, maybe even a designated pair of draining pants to stay dry(ish). I am seriously considering coating an old pair of jeans to make draining pants. Here's a link, with a pretty cool video:

Look up camp-dri. Even repelling water it won't stay dry underwater.

I've got a pair of thigh-highs and they work great. I'm looking at augmenting their function by making them totally resistant to water.

So what are you planning to do about the gaping holes in your pants that your feet stick through?

Or do you just mean that your waders don't actually work anymore and they need to be replaced...?

The waders work perfectly. They are entirely water-tight, and go right up to my balls. However, I think that a hydrophobic coating would keep water from clinging to them, reducing drag and making it easier to walk through thigh-deep water. The coating would keep water from soaking denim jeans and keep me from getting waterlogged. I realize that going draining results in a wet explorer, but a hydrophobic coating might keep things streamlined.

I don't think a hydrophobic coating will make it noticeably easier to walk through water.

If I do a miracle Jesus-walk on top of water in a storm drain, I'll just hit my fucking head on the pipe.

This is a great idea. We had to stop halfway through a drain cause my "scout" got a little freaked out by the water... well, and the bugs. She came back screaming with cockroaches in her hair. haha

I wonder if you actually are able to use your pants or whatever cloth you spray it as before.
Shouldn't it get hard and unusable?

Flex seal is crap.

The rustoluem version called leak seal or something is great - I just sealed my boat which would gain about a gallon a day of water.

I bought some hydrophobic coating, and it's almost useless.

Basically anything you put it on will repel water until you submerge it for more than a few seconds, it wears off really easily, and when it wears it leaves sticky hydrophobic white dust everywhere.

It is good for treating the inside of electronics though.
