The Abandoned Mines on Granite Mountain in the Anza-Borrego Desert

Spent yesterday hiking up a steep, three-mile, old mining road to reach the seldom-visited, abandoned gold mines atop Granite Mountain. There are a total of five access points to this mine, but a few of them have been eroded shut. At the mine site, we found many relics from the late 1800s and early 1900s including an old bed frame, cans, a bucket, and the ruins of an ore processing mill. The hike up the old mining road was impressive because in many places along its length the original berms of stacked rocks were still in place after more than a hundred years!

The music makes this sound like an inspirational 80's advertisement for UrbExing. Great explore!
