They can tow your car if your arrested no matter where it's parked (if they find it) so the most important thing is not stepping on toes or at least not getting arrested. Towing and impound fees will add to the high cost of being busted if they haul your ass in.

| | | i park my ride usually a mile or two down the road at the nearest large shopping center (as long as it is crowded on the day i am going) otherwise i park on a residential road. I've found so far that the only times i have ever been caught have been because of my lax efforts in parking too close to the place. I've learned my lesson and prefer to hide my car far away and just hike to the location now, since i started doing that i have not had any trouble.

| | | I like the large parking lot idea. One large site that had boo coo security also has parking lots used by smaller businesses. How convenient. Predawn, don't get seen going in, but coming back at dusk once clear of the perimeter, I would let it all hang out, not trying to hide the tripod, taking my time as I was exhausted from 14+ hours of fun. No one ever said a word to me, even made more amusing by watching dopey wannabes get chased off during the day never even breaching the site's perimeter. Predawn is good and many times the best time to go in. You may need to wait until late at night to make it back out though. I brought enough water and food to stay there for at least a day and a half. No deadline; take your time, do it right. Know when to lay low and chill.
Your security measures were inadequate. How unfortunate for you. |

What is the difference between exploring and being lost?"
| | Re: Parking? <Reply # 23 on 4/15/2012 2:49 AM >
| | | If I can,I try and park behind the property.Exploring where Iam is kinda tough, because its either at the side of the road...or bonus if the place has a driveway I can use. I dislike parking right in the open and exploring rural areas, there are no huge parking lots and not a heck of alot of cover But I have found parking at the location can sometimes work in my favor.People just assume that I am the property owner,or a real estate agent, particularly when they see the camera [last edit 4/15/2012 2:52 AM by Spiritwalker - edited 1 times]

| | | It really depends on the location. I always try to park so my car is not visible from the abandonment, I like keeping the option open of hiding out or sneaking away without a car in plain view for police or neighbors to watch. If I'm checking a place out in the city I will typically park at a local fast food joint or retail store and walk upwards of a mile and a half to get where I need to go, depending on the weather and terrain. If it's in a rural area I will either park on the side of the road a ways away as if I'm visiting a friends house or parking to go for a walk, although if it's a location where there is no parking nearby like off a highway I will park in the rear of the location and as far away from view as possible.
