| | | I just wanted to tell everyone about an interesting new exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Modern Art. It is called "Racetrack--Superstar--Ghost". It is a short film that was shot during last summer's U2 concert at the abandoned Hippodrome. It does a good job at comparing the temporary structure that was built just for the concert, with the abandoned buildings on the site. They spent millions building new grandstands to use for just two days, instead of utilizing the existing (abandoned) grandstands. It is an interesting film for those interested in abandonment. I watched it twice. I suggest checking it out if you are near downtown Montreal.

| | | keep in mind half the grandstands were the ones used for the grand prix and the 2 enclosed grandstands at blue bonnets dont lend themselves to a rock concert since they are enclosed in glass, as well they posed a huge security problem as the upper deck of the main grandstand was abandonned years ago and parts of the building that are necessary for those kinds of crowds had been dismantled years ago, ie WASHROOMS. but hey, some people will complain about anything.

| | | I was up there today and got some photos. I have no way to upload them until I get back to Toronto next week. I am surprised that the property is so easy to get to. There is a Walmart next door and no fence. You can just walk right onto the track from the Walmart parking lot. It also looks like there may have been a tunnel from Nemur Station. Do anyone know if this was true?

| | | never was a tunnel, namur metro opened many years after the expressway, they would have had to blast for the tunnel. The decarie trench is pretty deep and prone to flooding and not much higher than the metro tunnel. the smart centres power center popped up maybe 15 years ago, before that there was nothing there except more parking for blue bonnets.

| | Hippodrome de Montreal (Abandoned) <Reply # 8 on 2/1/2012 8:41 AM >
| | | The Hippodrome closed in 2009, and has sat unused since. Except for one use for a U2 concert in 2011. Here are some high-resolution shots, part of my new photo set 'The Abandonment Project': http://community.w...um/582261611Beshyd
Security came by while I was taking these, and he was very nice. I asked him if I could go inside, but he said the owners did not want anyone inside for safety reasons, but I got some good shots through the windows.
