When Such first signed on, he contacted me and asked if I thought people here would accept him. He'd been on a couple of other UE forums where people were not very accepting of anyone that wasn't a long time friend. I told him that I thought the people on UER and particularly the south were not like that. And I still know that we're not.
I never really took into account that there might be issues. My problem now is that I don't know if Such is just not sure how to frame a conversation with us, or if he is being a king sized turd. I can see how people could think either way.
I also know that these kinds of situations tend to "feed" upon themselves. Once it becomes trendy to steal the new guys lunch money, everyone jumps on the bus and wants a nickle too.
That's all I'm trying to do is to prevent that kind of downward spiral from getting traction. I'm not taking up for Such. The guy MUST learn to stand on his own two feet, bottom line. I've offered to help, and I still will.

And this? Man, for a new guy on the forum, if you keep taking that approach there’s no way people are ever going to accept you. There are better ways to frame a reply than this. You’re on your own if you’re going to keep doing this until you’ve been here long enough to earn your place at the table.
So now, maybe it will make sense to you guys why I am taking the position I'm taking. That's also why I told Such in my last posts to NOT make a fool out of me.
Such, all you need to do really, is just explore, and post your explorations. Share them with us and just have fun. DO NOT try to get into a competition about a roof, and understand that these folks on here have been exploring for a LONG time and they know what they are doing.
Don't let yourself be the common denominator for not getting along with people on that other forum and this one too! If you want my help, just ask. The offer still stands.

i have found that the internet is full of: bullshit, porn, endless dribble about cats and elitist assholes. go out and explore, pics (good or bad) are optional. the internet will still be here, and someone will still be wrong on it when you get back.

Sorry but asking me what I am going to school for or other things have nothing to do with getting on this roof.
For the dean it makes no difference if you are a computer or a education major.
Both are not allowed on this roof.
The students that work the help desk are NOT allowed to get on the roof to fix the WiFi antenna. The students that work for facilities are NOT allowed to get on a roof.
Students in general are NOT allowed to get on any roof for any reason.
I needed to involve a couple of people before I got permission from even more people, including security, the dean, and I don't know who else.
So having all these people involved, I don't know why I shouldn't be allowed to take pictures of people that take me up there.
So any other questions about my education, forget them, because they are not part of anything.

I'm beginning to wonder if we're all reading the same thread.
This is also getting pretty redundant at this point.
He hasn't logged in in ten days yet here we are discussing his feelings.
I can't and won't speak for the board (as I feel in an underlying way I'm being reminded that I'm a guest here) but this has more to do with respect than anything else. And if the above quoted posts don't show that there is a deficiency there on Suchs part then maybe it's me that's missing something. (I can dig up more posts if this point needs to be further illustrated)
He got on a roof that we collectively challenged him to get on. He proved everyone that said he wouldn't/couldn't do it wrong.
Everyone of those people in some form said "dude, GOOD JOB"
In 2 different threads mind you.
Such says thanks by saying "don't you dare ask me questions about the school I just posted pictures of and it's none of your business why I'm going there"
(also, after reading that reply, I'd say he's got a pretty good grip on the English language, he articulated himself well)
That's the way to win friends for sure.
I typed a long post to such in another thread about the hazing the new guy usually takes. He apparently didn't read it. I know for a fact that several of you have reached out to him via PM's to echo the second half of Raticus' above post and say hey Such, you might want to consider how you're coming off. He chooses to be unreceptive.
Most of the people that have posted in Suchs threads have been here for some time.
Did you have to earn people's respect here?
Because I sure as hell know that I did.

the internet is full to the top with them,yes. its easy to sit at a desk and become the internet master of (insert any: hobbie, job, product, process, color of paint, talent, or way of life here). go to any forum devoted to: the car/truck you drive, or the brand of bike you ride or what your favorite caliber of deer rifle you shoot, roller blades or skateboard, train or bus travel...... and post, post 1 post. miss spell a word, post in the wrong area, post with a "lisp", fail by adding broken a picture or link, ask a question that others think is stupid, have a shitty sig line...and you become fodder for the internet elitist assholes.
as for "paying your dues" on uer- yes, im sure we all did to some extent. fwiw, go to another area and post there- yup time to pay dues again...
newbies need to learn fast how to put thier "big girl panties on" and deal with it. the mods step in and edit or delete our posts- we need to learn not to get our "big girl panties" in a wad, and get over it.
uer is a fun place, we poke fun at eachother, it goes overboard at times, but it is only the internet.

The reason for that is if you'll take a look at the post reply numbers on the main page of the south forum, you will see that except for the "Photo of the Day" & "Meet-n-Greet" threads, Such's threads have WAAAY more replies than any other threads in the south forum. A lot more. Just like the funny popcorn gifs that folks have posted, this has become a drama that everyone is buying tickets to watch.
The more I say about it, the worse this is going to get, at least for me. So my advice now is simple:
(1) Such, learn how to take the licks of being the new guy and earn respect for yourself by acting like your part of the group. You're going to have to do that any where you go.
(2) for everyone else, just don't violate the site rules.
Other than that, I'm done with this. The end, turn off the popcorn machine.
