a failed draining trip

a friend and I are starting a local UE club and went on a maiden voyage. we chose a local drain, one that is easily accessible and very large. we found pretty much nothing, but i took some pics and just wanted someopinions on starting groups and the like

below, our find of the day, a couple man hole covers and part of a rear axle to a truck.

below, the only real room.

below, it went on like this for about a mile before getting even smaller.

below, a boring side drain, aside from the fact it that it was spewing orange rust water.

well thats about it. see, it sucked!

Dude, that's a cool drain! Headroom and everything.

As far as starting groups... it's fun to UE with people but not really necessary. I explore mostly solo. It's about going places I've always subconciously deemed "off-limits": construction sites at night; office building stairwells, machine rooms and roofs; abandoned buildings and local hotels.

Just play safe and get out there.

hehe, yes. more of a dissapointment. i prefer to do roofing and building exploration alone, its good to drain with someone else, mostly for safety reasons.

there was a lot of red brick, but only in the joints and areas where small drains came in.

i guess the real reason we want to start a (small) group is so we can cover more ground and find more cool places around here faster. and it also gives us an excuse to make a website.

thanks for the feedback.

Yah, im starting a group so I can build a website too, kinda. That and I want people who live by me that are dependable to get up and splore.

I wouldn't advise UEing anything alone. Just cus shit can happen anywhere. Plus it's eerie for me to be all alone in these places. <_<

Let me get this straight, you found a drain that includes:

- a CMP quasi-arch tunnel
- a concrete oval
- a red brick (!) room and red brick in other joints and shafts;

And you're labelling it a failure?

I would label that a nice success. If you didn't enjoy it, then draining probably just isn't for you. That's nothing to be ashamed about, it's just the way it is. You can't expect to go into a drain and find an abandoned factory somewhere past the third manhole chamber. Draining is all about the subtler perceptions and experiences. If you don't have the patience to recognize and nurture those pleasures, then you're probably best to just go back to roofs and buildings. I won't hold it against you, I promise.

and it also gives us an excuse to make a website.

Yah, im starting a group so I can build a website too, kinda.

Ah, cart before horse?

i can't speak for drains in other countries, but i know here in Australia some drains are great and some are pathetic. Looks like you found a somewhat boring one (definately not the worst you'll ever see though!), but i wouldn't call your expedition a failure.

keep at it, i'm sure you'll soon find some amazing drains

Whenever I find a place that wasn't really worth exploring, I consider it a success just for the fact that I know it's not really worth exploring in the future ;)

If I found that drain around here I would be stoked...... here we shuffle along for an hour or so, seeing nothing but grey concrete chambers and RCP. I'm moving to a capital city.
