|  | | | I realize there may be more info on this topic in the sections for full members so please excuse my ignorance.
For 6 or 8 months I've been interested in going to visit the Cole Park Detention Vaults but couldn't get any friends interested on the right days. So Sunday 10/16/11 I went down there. I didn't spend much time in the actual vaults (maybe 20-30 minutes) because I was dreading the trip back to the surface. I think I only really saw one of the 13 vaults and some of the other adjoining tunnels, etc.
I have been reading everything I can find on them and based on the descriptions I've found (13 parallel vaults x 842ft L x 24ft W x 40ft H) compared to the surface area of the city park it seems as though every square ft of the footprint of the park would have to be used to fit these vaults beneath it.
Anyway, if anyone in the know feels like sharing info or confirming the rough accuracy of this drawing please feel free.
I don't have much of a frame of reference to know where I was standing compared to the surface maps, but I do know that at one point I was directly below the large circular hatch in the parking lot (shown in the drawing).
BTW it was pretty cool and I'm interested in going back soon.

| | | | Those descriptions puzzled me, too. I think what is meant by that is that they are near arches. Meaning they aren't perfect circles and aren't perfect arches but taper or bow back in at the bottom.

There are a few on here who know quite a bit about it, talk to Ardamass, or maybe MusketBoy. Neither seem to be very active on here lately, but you never know.
Musket has the most amazing shots from in there. I wanted to get in so bad when I lived there, but didn't have anyone willing at the time.

| | | | Believe it or not no. My small camera broke last week unexpectedly (screen stopped working) and I forgot my phone in the car. In retrospect I decided that camera would be a good draining camera. Just throw it in a ziplock bag and accept that half or more of the screen is black.
I will happily sketch the catfish I saw if anyone is interested.

Your diagram is more or less accurate though there are a few more details.
Also, while this is near by I don't believe it's actually considered part of the vault but rather the tunnel that feeds into it.
I used to have a GIS map of it somewhere but I'm not sure I still do.
