The sheriff in my home county frequents my website occasionally has really admired the work I've been doing. Most of the authorities I've encountered are the type that admire the professionalism and respect of my approach and are just relieved that I'm not going to set fire to or vandalize anything.

Other black-and-white-type people couldn't care less who I was or why I was on property without permission, and would likely use my website as evidence against me.

People's responses are unpredictable. You just have to trust your intuition.

I have been thinking of getting a press pass to help with getting off the hook.

Better rethink that one. Trespassing laws will still apply.

Your security measures were inadequate.
How unfortunate for you.

the best credibility prop is confidence, you shouldn't need to fumble for your business card to prove anything.

a hard hat, jeans and a t-shirt with a construction companies name works well. if you act as if you belong, thats a big part of it. a badge of some sort is great as well. taken from personal experience in Baltimore several times.

Dont want to wake up with no one beside me
Dont want to take up with nobody new
Dont want nobody coming by without calling first Dont want nothing to do with you.

Don't bother making your own, just do a quick yellow pages search in photography, head down to their office and ask for their card.

If it helps ease your mind. I've found that "I'm a musician and I thought this would be a cool place to shoot pictures of our band" or "I just got this new camera and I'm testing out it's long exposure.. is this your building? Oh, I thought it was abandoned! (Ha ha). I hope I'm not a bother." Play dumb and act like you don't know you're breaking the rules. I use the same approach to avoid speeding tickets.

A camera and a big-ass tripod are good too. One building owner my buddy ran into let him stay and shoot more pictures!

Proud supporter of the pullout method
