Will a gas mask protect against asbestos?

If so, which of these 3 are the best?

Israeli Civilian Gas Mask w/ Nato Filter

Czech M10M Gas Mask

Non of the above. Go to ur local hardware store & get a respirator. Gas masks are for gas.

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

Here's your answer

provides 99.97% filter efficiency against oil and non-oil, certain dusts, fumes, mists, radionuclides and asbestos-containing dusts and mists.

...why would you blow hundreds on a gas mask anyway, when a 27$ respirator does all you need to and more.

The gas masks are surplus, so they're around the same price range if not cheaper, but it looks like a respirator is the better choice.

The masks WOULD protect against asbestos, seeing as the particulate portion of the filters would not degrade over time, only the activated charcoal (gas) portion. That said: they're uncomfortable and hot and hard to breath in. Plus theyre 100x harder to explain to a cop when he searches your bag. Get a p100 respirator from Home Depot for <$30.

^what i was too lazy to type, also, finding the replacement filters on a military mask that aren't expired are generally going to be expensive as all hell.

I personally use this one over my 3m. Its still cutting edge fetish and not nearly as pedestrian as your typical gas-mask. I've also noticed it keeps away the scrappers and jag-offs rather well, they sorta just....run.

Yes, because in a NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) Filter the Nuclear and Biological part of the filter is a physical particulate barrier (a fine paper mesh that keeps out irradiated dust and microbes) like in a respirator. What makes it a "gas" mask is the Chemical part, which is filtered by activated charcoal. The activated charcoal is what expires since paper cannot.

Gas masks are made to protect a soldier from deadly gas during military operations. I collect gas masks and other military related items, so I would hihgly recommend getting a respirator and filters designed for asbestos and such, so give the military gas masks the rest they deserve.

Agreed. But they make for fun pictures! The only time I'd recommend using them for a "practical" purpose is if youre in the situation I was in: Broke, and cant afford a respirator, but already own a gas mask. But, if youre going to spend money on something then get the respirator.

Honestly, I don't even bother with my respirator in asbestos environments anymore. Though I carry my respo with me on every explore, I only pull it out when I encounter black mold in such high levels that you can smell it. See my signature.
