| | | First UrbExpeditition: A Hotel < on 9/30/2011 12:12 AM >
| | | So yeah, getting into this baby was hard, but we were able to do it completely safe and without trouble. This was mine and my friend (UER: staufinc) first time urban exploring. We didn't damage anything, run into cops, or find ourselves lost and confused. In my opinion, the hotel is a good source for attracting new UrbEx fanatics. Once you find a good way in, which took us 30 MINUTES, you are set and the rest of your time spent in there is time marveling the grand and amazing design of the hotel. However, we did run into an old woman sleeping in a bed in one room... that is in a video I haven't rendered yet. We didn't wake her up and so no harm done. Oh yeah, and we were a little influenced so this trip was EXTREMELY euphoric and we could almost FEEL the past blow over the hairs of your skin. Here are the videos: http://www.youtube...atch?v=Aj5EtMo5Eg8 http://www.youtube...atch?v=zFj8SO2CXAk http://www.youtube...atch?v=09ReLFZ_L1s Anyone else been to this hotel and what are your experiences? Do you think we did a good first expedition? We plan to go again real soon. Oh, and we're DFW natives if you're wondering. [last edit 9/30/2011 3:35 AM by Advancedx2 - edited 1 times]

| | | Just curious, how many of you have been there at night? I'd say exploring at night is the best... so many dark.

| | | Hi. I'm the guy you can see in images 2 and 6. This was an awesome first adventure. We spent a good 30 minutes trying to get in before we found a way in. I have a 2 hour long video of the entire adventure. I duct taped a 720p helmet camera to my really dim flashlight. The video is really dark because of how bad my flashlight was. Although once sunrise happens you can see a lot. In fact I placed my camera on the ledge of the bell tower and recorded the entire sunrise. All in all it was a complete success.

I wish. I think the company planning it gave up... they did the preliminary examination of the structure and the price to repair it might have scared them off. The price of this hotel is ridiculously low but the price to make it usable as a hotel or basically any other business is around $54 million.

The key is to park off-site at around 3am. The cops are usually slacking, and you can jump into the car entrance area from behind. Getting in is another story. The place is super boarded and welded shut. Again, it took us 30 minutes to get in. I hate to brag, but I found a crazy easy but non-obvious way to get in.

| | | I don't quiet know what to say about the fact that you made so much of how it took you guys 30 minutes to get in through all those "super boarded and welded shut" windows and doors, but yet there was a little old senior citizen woman up there sound asleep after probably taking 27 seconds to get in. Also, you guys are damn lucky that you didn't get busted standing out on that landing like that. This location has a pretty "hot" history, especially in the last couple of years, of landing explorers in the Mineral Wells Donut and Incarceration Center. Nonetheless, I am impressed that you made this your first UE. And like someone said, this kinda gives us an update on the security and condition of the place. I'd like to get in it again soon. Been a couple years since I was there. Just know that this is a location that the cops do watch very closely for some reason.

| | | I know several people who have been thrown out in as little as 30 minutes, though I've yet to hear a confirmed story of jail time. On the other hand, I've spent close to 48 hours in there now over the course of 6 or 7 visits and have yet to be caught, even with all my flashlights and strobes going off at all hours of the night. Go figure. And of course the renovation fell through, just as I predicted years ago when they first started talking about it. As I always said, anyone smart enough to scrape together $50 million dollars isn't gonna be stupid enough to sink it into Mineral Wells!

| | | I read a couple of articles last year or earlier this year about 2 or 3 people getting busted and arrested. I don't remember exactly what the charges were but obviously it was more than just trespass. They were probably smoking a joint with the old lady who sleeps there. I'm just saying be careful. I'm glad to know it's some what open again. I didn't get to see any where close to all of it when I went. It would take a full day for me.
