The Sklyark Motel has a sorted past. Seized by the State in 2005 stemming from drug busts in November of 2004 and August of 2005, The motel was owned
by the same couple for 25 years. During the two raids police recovered over 3000 pills, including Ocycotin, Methadone, Xanax, Soma, Lortab, Valium
and Apidex. The owners were jailed for 3 months in lieu of $300,00 bond after the second arrest and agreed to forfeit the motel, two adjacent lots,
and a travel trailer where an additional 1,200 pills were found. Before sentencing, the District Judge asked the District Attorney what the state would
do with a motel with a substantial mortgage. The District Attorney said "The state intends to put it up for sale" adding that the motel would likely
be bought quickly, even though it had a $65,000 mortgage.

Somewhere between the "acquisition" and now, the hotel suffered a fire, and has since been vandalized. The state currently has a $100,000 tax lien
against the property, so people are lining up to buy it. The city is stuck with it, and will probably have to pay to demolish it, or at least fence it off.

Looks like the state got the short end of this bargain....
