Yeah, you should have been there, aplz. And I had forgotten how Krenta had flipped out at the state of the radar room. And 'Dukes - never mind the cache of weapons we found, what about that cache of nudie mags you and I found in that one quarters?

Oh - and the rations I tried were actually very good. I popped them in the microwave while some of you were out having a smoke, and I was pretty impressed.

Goddam, guys. There's a carrier (on display) in Charleston, SC and when I was taking the self guided tour I really wanted to just hop across the gates on the non-tour doorways and take a look around...but I had no light source and it was quite dark. The fact that it's a WW2 carrier made it very tempting nonetheless.

Next time...

I think I may have found your wallet, there was a black one left in the zodiak, with about 20 cash and an Adults Only Video membership card, plus some ID and credit cards. On top of that, I grabbed some of the rations from the ship, they are good till 2050, so they will make some great UEing snacks.

Damn guys I told you not to take anything. I was wondering why the boat was heavier in the water second time around. I thought it had just deflated a bit. I was a bit dissapointed though that Crossy left his camera behind. We'll have to go back again tonight. Good thing the guards are still on strike.

Okay, well this time I suppose it's okay to borrow some food. We'll do just one boat run and try get some good video.

I was pretty pissed that I couldn't make it when the rest of you went, so I had to go myself. I went from the far end of the dock, right under neath the guards ! Under the dock, through the pilings. Tide was low so I had to watch out for the barnacles on the poles (they're sharp). From there I swam out around the side and climbed up that rope that's hanging down. I don't suggest anyone that isn't a strong climber trying this way, since it's a long climb up that rope, especially when you're soaked in water.

Once I was on deck, the rest was child's play. I've been on a lot of ships, but nothing that size before. I was on it till just before sunrise, and could easily have explored even longer. I tried some new settings on my cam... not sure if they turned out worth a crap. I'll upload the pics as soon as I get a chance. hopefully I've got some good ones.

Did you see this phone? That is straight from the Titanic age technology.

Actualy, the phone makes a good deal of sense Turn off the main breaker for your house and then try and make a phone call. The speaking tubes are for if the power is out.

Uh, I could turn off the main breaker in my house and make a phone call, as long as it isn't a cordless phone. But for a ship, it's different I suppose.

the reason you can do that is that the phone company is providing power for the phone line, and you only provide power for the phone if it requires it. on a ship its all self contained, and they have their own phone system and if the power goes out for the phone system they have no interior communications, so they use the pipes to communicate.

Right, I got that. Thats what I was saying in my post, guess I wasn't clear enough. Do they really still use pipes in ships? (as backups, as opposed to radios or some sort, or something like that?) It just seems silly to me.

The older ships use speaking tubes as a damage control feature. Just imagine if you got slammed with an exocet missile or a torpedo and your bow is broken with power out, then you can get the picture.

More modern ships use sound powered phones which are physically connected via wire and do not require external power.

Also, if any of you get back into the main engineering spaces be very careful as sometimes there are open manholes (scuttle's) that have a 5-7 story drop with only a ladder to grab onto.
