I hope you're joking Valkyre: just do it balls mate
|
I'm not worried about getting up and shit, I'm worried about the cops. 3 of my mates have their IDs registered in the police's database 'cause they got busted at Yorkshire Brewery last week. Next time they get busted, they're getting fined big time. Bummer times.

| | | Posted by spoonifur I think "two beers" in your bag is something you should probably keep to yourself. I wouldn't recommend drinking on the job.

Roo-kie doesn't keep his beers in a bag while craning, he keeps them in his hand.

| | | time to put your ninja hat on bud and accept the risks, you do it, or you miss out. what "big fines" and what law do they fall under? I could be wrong, but when I've heard 'police database' most of the time it was just their daily running sheet and they got the scare-tactic ear bashing of a lifetime edit haha loki, fond memories; cranes, beers and naked ladies gazing out of windows [last edit 10/17/2011 12:09 AM by lxk_ - edited 1 times]

| | | Yessir. Some dickhead lady from across the street in some apartments called the cops on 'em. They were on top of the silo, chillin'. Then KittenOfDoom heard a walkie talkie and realized shit was going to go down. They watched the cop struggle to cross that small sketchy-as bridge to get to the balaclava building. Then the crew gave up 'cause they had been waiting for 45 minutes waiting for the cops to go away but instead they kept coming in closer. So they took their names and ID and shit and put it in their database and let them off with a warning, telling them that if they get caught again (By any police in Melbourne altogether), they'll be checked up for in the database, and probably get a massive fine.

| | | I don't think there's anything that should or could stop you partaking in a harmless, vicitmless crime, unless you have some kind of court ordered curfew. I'd say you'll only ever get properly written up if you're a vandal, thief, or pose some other kind of undetermined threat (like you're casing the joint for copper etc) cops are often upset by security's (and property owner's) inability to deal with 'kids with cameras' and Yorkshire's neighbors are probably in the same boat. Just use your brain and always consider those people in society that have nothing better to do than report people to police. That said though, don't attract attention to yourselves during the day, sounds like they were asking for it. I mean, if the cops told you it was a warning, you and your mates would have been back in there next weekend. That wouldn't sit well with the cops (who probably don't want to be chasing kids through incredibly dangerous derelict buildings again) or sit well with the neighbors that probably call the Collingwood police station on a regular basis. no doubt there are a few of us around that have been caught in a far worse than shitty derelicts and we're all still up and at it. derelicts are nothing compared to other things you guys could be exploring, so really your friends concerns are largely dismissible. ergo Don't worry! Those cops must be bored. One or two people have a better chance of not being seen or heard.
Your security measures were inadequate. How unfortunate for you. |

Very insightful! Yes, as Loki mentioned too, they probably are just trying to scare us and stop us from coming back. And yeah, I've been looking at a lot of live sites lately, obviously of more secured sites. Should be going back to Yorkie at night time, 'cause night is where the party's at!

On the live sites the cops and owners may mistake you for thieves. They will less forgiving of you if caught. Active sites owners also worry about liability. They are more likely to press charges.

Sure, it'll be like a tall monkey bars. Don't fall though. I suggest climbing tower cranes, not boom cranes.

Of course that's what they're trying to do. you know about the death in there a few years ago? The guy that died was very familiar with the building . I don't know why people insist on revisiting the most unredeeming place to explore that our city has to offer (oh that's right, I do know, it's because all the good stuff is obscured from the internet) nevertheless, keep at it

| | | I've done two cranes, and ran from security once / sucked up to cops once. In cities, the background glow will silhouette you against clouds and make you super-obvious, so wait for a clear night (like Aurelie said), and limit your exposure. Yeah it's awesome up there, but remember response times and think twice before chilling out on see-through mesh. Make sure you have camera gear. The more the better. Someone with 2k of gear didn't climb that crane just to steal some tools.
