| | Ft. Chaffee destroyed by fire < on 8/15/2011 6:12 PM >
| | | http://www.swtimes...-001cc4c03286.html Did anybody ever explore Ft. Chaffee, specifically the old hospital? We visited friends in Ft. Smith this weekend, and my buddy told me about the fire. He was going to take us out there to check it out, but unfortunately that was no longer an option.

| | | WHAT?!?!?! That place was beautifully unique/creepy. Though I can't imagine the whole place burnt. It's quite extensive, spent a couple hours there and only touched half of it. Its all wood, I'm actually a bit surprised it just now caught on fire... 1.

| | | My brother used to go there for National Guard manuevers. I remember stopping in there years ago when there was just a small caretaker unit. Great shots Fiend.

| | | Oh no, it's not the fort, it's/was a hospital. LOTS of buildings.

| | | Great pics. Apparently, the plan was to eventually demolish the buildings anyway, so the decision was made to let the fire consume the buildings in order to save the cost of demolition. Though I missed an opportunity to explore Ft. Chaffee, I had an opportunity to explore Fort Wingate in New Mexico a couple of years ago. I'll have to add my pics soon (though that'll have to be in the Four Corners forum).

| | | It pisses me off. The buildings were useless but the guardsmen were idiots. Fort Smith hadn't received any rain for 2 months and it they were on like 30 straight days of 100+, yet they promptly threw out a cigarette. Here's some of my crappy pics, back when I had a crappy camera.
