|  | | | There's a boarded up Wendy's on a main road that I wanna' check out. My plan for action was to drive up and pull into the parking lot, circle the building in the car, then park in plain sight of the road and get out with my camera and messenger bag and check out the exterior, snap some pictures, and look for a poe hopefully out of the sight of the road. This would be done in business casual attire, probably some makeup so I look a little older. Then leave and come back on Saturday or Sunday.
I'd thought of a cover story about wanting to open a bakery or confectioner's shop, but that may not be the best, seeing as if a cop comes and checks my license he/she'll see that I'm still 17, probably not old enough to get the loan from the bank to start up the business. Any other ideas for a cover story? There's absolutely no cover except for behind the building, but I don't know if I'll get lucky enough to find a poe back there. I'm probably overthinking it.

A person snapping some photos of the outside of an abandoned Wendys is going to not draw a second look. Worse case is a cop pulls up and asked what your doing "Saw this abandoned Wendy's and wanted to get some cool pics of it".

| | | | If you're just outside taking pictures, no cop or anyone really will ever give you a second look. You're probably over thinking it a lot, just go walk around and find a POE and walk in like you own the place. After finding out how easy it is, my usual modus operandi is to just put on a bright orange construction vest and walk straight in looking pissed and like I really just want to go home.
However, you have two huge advantages, you're female, and you're young. Walk in, start taking pictures, and leave when you're done. Nobody is going to ticket a teenage girl for taking pictures of some abandoned place. But, for the same reasons, if there's any hint of it being in a bad neighborhood, don't go alone, always have someone with you and someone else who knows where you are. Read this thread and try not to overthink it.

| | | | Heh, you were right, I was overthinking it. Next time I'm approaching a different way, however. I honestly thought there was a proper middle lane, but it was the beginning of a turn lane at the light.
Though there were two people at least who gave me a second look. There was the old man who I think was turning around in the parking lot. I smiled and waved. And the chick(I think it was was a chick) who called out "The hell you doin' white meat!?" Well, I assume it was for me.

I can't even count how many abandonments I've parked in front of and walked right into on busy highways and nobody ever looked twice. it's the ones in residential neighborhoods that are trickier. If you're nervous, just take your time finding a POE, and once there's a lull in traffic, slip right in. Easy as pie.

just act like you own the place.
most the time if its along side the road i just whip out my di...camera and tripod and act like i bought the place for some casual se..photo shoots.
never had a problem and even cops have just looked at me and drove on.
and if u find a coffee toffee while your in there....

| | | | Two reasons, actually. Once I manage to draw convincing post-apocalyptic scenery, my characters will likely run into a lot of fast food joints. Plus, I figured it would be something fairly easy for my first explore. As I now know, few people are going to take much notice, it's been abandoned for quite a few years, fairly isolated with a highway ramp behind the small strip of trees (little likelihood of anyone sneaking up on me), and it doesn't look like it has bums or crack heads. Perhaps it's the sheer boringness of the place that attracted me. Quite frankly, I'm just trying to get my confidence up.
Plus, if I can get in and it's not too disgusting, I can get a friend to take some pics of me eating a frosty in an abandoned Wendy's. I'm just ironic like that : D

That actually sounds like a cool idea, and worth checking out a "boring" place just for that. Besides, you never know what you'll find till you're in there...I've been to places that looked really interesting outside and had absolutely nothing worth taking photos of inside, and places that looked like nothing special outside but had really cool photo ops inside!
