Abandoned Racetrack, Active amusement park

So there is this abandoned race track at the active Lakeside amusement park, And today i went through like 5 people before i finally found the person to talk to, I went to the owners secretary to ask her if I could shoot some photos the old track, She flipped out at me and started yelling at me "NO, DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOTOS OF THE TRACK OR PARK ON YOUR CAMERA, DELETE THEM DELETE THEM!" and then she kicked me out, anywho, since I am pretty sure that even if I talked directly to the owner, there is no chance that I would get permission, so what do you suggest I do, the place is crawling with workers, and I really really badly want to see this place, do you think I should talk to the owner, or should I just go for it?

Doesn't sound like you'll be able to get permission. Best bet is to sneak in at night on the off season.

Find a janitor. Copy or mimick his clothes and any of his badges, and stroll in.

Don't know why anyone would freak out about you asking to take some photos. It's just a track. A billion photos were taken of it when it was open probably.

Exactly what I thought, I was appalled to be honest when the lady started screaming at me, I was polite as could be when I asked.

I actually just faked to delete the photos I had taken from outside the fence, mostly to get her to stop screaming in my face.

For some reason Lakeside is ultra-paranoid about people taking pictures, unless you're using a cell phone.
From yelp.com: Lastly, the whole reason we were there is the "Retro", falling-down, olde-tyme style photogenic tendencies of this place. We brought our cameras and gear, and anticipated an evening of cool signs, long exposures of neon lights zooming by us, and nifty architecture. So what's the problem?

WE WERE STOPPED BY SECURITY AND DETAINED FOR TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS.

Seriously. We were escorted to "The Office" where we had to plead our case. PLEAD OUR CASE. Now, there are no "NO PHOTOGRAPHS" signs, no "small print" on the tickets, NADA. So ummm... our case? ***We're taking photos*** Duh, lady.
She asked us to write down our personal information and sign a statement. (I did not sign my name. Dumb B*Word didn't check our IDs. I signed "Madonna Ciccone" She didn't seem to notice. I also gave her my bank's phone number. Revenge, I guess, for their awful hold music.) She also forced us to write the statement that we were not from the press and would not reprint, post online, sell or share the photographs.

PARANOID MUCH?

That is weird, maybe they are afraid of people photographing safety systems on the rides, or knowing that park, the lack of safety systems.

Well then, rat them out to safety inspectors. Before long, it will be an abandoned amusement park.

I think they're scared of us "normal people" making better photos of the park than they have on their website.

Highly illegal. They can eject you from the park but have no right to try enforce copyright of your images.

This is one of those cases where I would go and very openly start taking photos around the park in areas that you are allowed to be, just to see the shit you can stir up! =)

Now that is so true. If the park was top notch, they would not have any reason to worry.

hahahahhah Why didn't I even think of that.

Seems odd. Anyone got any other info on this place? I wonder if there is current legal action against them (injury lawsuit, etc) and they have had other folks comming in there to photo things for a suit against them. Not saying the way they are acting is right, I just wonder if there is some background here we don't know about?

A few years ago lexiphoto tried to take her photography class to Lakeside. She explained that it was a class field trip, and Lakeside told her that they wouldn't allow photography and if any of her students showed up and started taking pictures, they would be kicked out.

Lakeside has been threatening to close for a number of years now. Sadly, it is, in my opinion, the best amusement park we've got out here--Elitch's went to shit after they moved to their current location many years back, and it especially didn't help when Six Flags took over for a while.

Keith--Skip the racetrack. It's not worth the hassle, and people have already been arrested or ticketed for trying to get in.

Subduction leads to orogeny. Duh.

I agree! I was so bummed when they moved, and what dumbasses decided to put an amusement park in a place where you can never expand?
