Now that the Shuttle is history, whats going to happen to this place? Its the "Home of the External Tank"...where they built the big external tanks for the shuttles.

I wonder if it will go dark and abandoned? God knows NASA has been known to let other (more dangerous) sites sit empty!

What a cool place that would be to explore!!!

My father worked at that assembly plant in the 80s and he has great stories from the place.

Don't count out the shuttle program, just yet.

What NASA facility? Aerojet? NASA doesn't have anything abandoned. Some of NASA's contractors may, but not NASA.

The shuttle program is no longer active because they were using 30+ year old technology. NASA is currently in the process of developing newer, better technology. There is a lot of work still going on in NASA because we are still in charge of ISS.

Very true. The Orion project is almost completed which will be the next mode of transportation into space on the american side. Although NASA has been using the Russians alot as well for transportation to space using the Soyuz rockets at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. That has been one of the main modes of getting supplies and astronauts and cosmonauts to and from the ISS for quite some time now. Kind of funny how our arch enemy during the cold war is now one of our biggest allies in the space program.

...the wings on my shoes shrank now the moths won't eat my kidneys, when i shake my state capital it only yields 3 fairy napkins, but how do i know my banana slippers are like water boats because when the moon winks it burns my hamster punches, and that's how you get to llama school rowing your canoe backwards up main street when the front bumper falls off, do mermaids get to drink orange juice?

And NASA would have nothing to do with those...

The Orion project is dead, thanks to Barry. Right now NASA has absolutely nothing to work on except to keep the ISS afloat via the ruskies for the next couple of years.
