|  | | | Went down to Valencia today and met up with Angelka, who is totally awesome, btw.
On our first sortie (with mango smoothly firmly in-hand) we hiked down through some weeds and climbed down a brick wall, and then with grace born through great experience we hopped a fence, to the quad outfall.

Which had a cunt sitting nearby...

Venturing inside we found quite a bit of graffiti, suggesting the presence of the artistic (and not so talented, in some cases) presence of those who had come before us.

Some of the murals were not entirely complex with detail, but still managed to convey entire scenes of triumph, tragedy, alien invasion, lost souls, and... complete oddity. But I have to give them points for creativity. It also appears many artists were extensive drug users.

It was at this point that the Shit Hole was discovered, and was given a wide berth.

At least one artist seemed to have a fascination with traffic and vehicles of all kinds.

We all need to "Fight the real enamy".

In the far right tunnel of the first picture we found a smallish round concrete pipe angling off to the north, with a short rise at the entrance. This followed back some distance till we were eventually inclined to trod no further (or rather, to crouch no further), having not brought a skateboard to lay on, nor a web-catching stick to clear our path.

In the far left tunnel, we found a larger round concrete pipe angling off to the south, which for the first quarter mile was tall enough for me to walk upright fully, and afterwards was still large enough for her to walk normally till almost the end; which consisted of a corrugated pipe and the box of a curb drain. 6 manholes and some offshoot pipes of smaller diameter shot off this way and that.

She scoped one out and I crawled inside for a bit of a look-see. Which, incidentally is the only picture in this whole set that I am featured in, and it's mostly just my feet.
My adventurous female counterpart was far more camera friendly, and frankly is far more easy on the eye, so she earned most of the photo space.

Just before the end of this pipe, there was a split, the right side leading to a bricked-up section.

Before leaving we encountered iCon, no doubt an intrepid explorer himself, who was sporting a spiffy hat.

After exiting the murky underworld, we headed over to the abandoned railroad bridge for some rope work practice.

It being her first time ever on-rope, she was belayed the 40ft drop to the riverbed below on the first run.

After that we went straight in to actual rappelling, at which time I was tending not only my own brake hand but hers as well, and had no extra hands left to take pictures.
I've got to say that I was totally stoked to spend the afternoon exploring with Angekla. She's quite fearless, witty, and exploration savvy. When I called and found out she'd never done a drain before, and told her the plan, she was just like "I'm down, lets go". That's just awesome.
I foresee increased vertical access skillz and mine exploration on the horizon.
