|  | | | The huge building in one of the most expensive areas in Vienna was built at the beginning of the 20th century. It was used as a christian orphanage until WW II. In 1945 it was "taken over" by the municipality of Vienna who, until the beginning of the 21st century, used it as a childrens' home but left it abandoned from then on.
Further usage was a strongly debated issue as it was deemed "to valuable" to be used as an official building for the district municipality (sic!). A couple of years ago it was sold to a former Croatian General for over € 20 Million (who, in the meantime, has been arrested for a vast amount of arms dealing). It is being said that the building is for sale again and it might be sold in the near future.
However, regardless of 10 years of non-usage, the building is in a surprisingly good shape with only minor destruction. Vandalism apparently has not taken place yet (we spotted only a handful of small graffiti on the outside).
