I always wondered what happened to the site in the aftermath. I also liked that you asked first out of respect for the people still living there. Very few things are truly abandoned - many seemingly abandoned structures still have owners. Whenever possible I try to contact the owners about checking something out. Believe it or not most of them say yes after I explain what I am there to do!
