Double post (http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=92188) is unnecessary.

As for the photos, how do you think they turned out?

You want to ease up on the contrast; the whites in every picture are severely blown out. HDR is supposed to widen the dynamic range, and these are doing just the opposite. Those halos from the tonemapping (especially on the shot of the smokestack) are quite unrealistic and don't really add much to the shots. The first picture is a bit crooked and has an odd blue tinge. 3 is well done and nicely composed, but has too much contrast, like all of them. The last one looks a little out of focus.

reckless thoughts abide; anachronistic and impulsive.

I think for a first try they turned out a lot better than they could have. Orly has you covered on critique I just wanted to add: there are a lot of us on UER that love HDR so keep practicing! I can tell your polished shots are going to be amazing!
Once you manage to reduce the blowout post more.

The halos in 1 and 5 are way over the top. Watch your vertical lines. Most of these need to be straightened. Crop the right side of #4 - the sides are unbalanced.

2 and 3 look good. Like everyone else said, the halos are pretty wild and out of control. and in 6, there's too much of a white blowout, I think.

We're all just trapped between the stippled earth and the stubbled sky.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the whole point of HDR to make your photos look more like what you see with your naked eye? If you end up with something looking like an acid trip you are kind of missing the point in my opinion.

Yes, as much as the whole point of photography is to make your photos look like what you see with your naked eye.

So, no, not all the time.

Well, this is my first time playing with HDR pro for CS5 and shooting sets for HDR. I figure with enough useful feedback I can have better photos next time but the different concepts you can come up with are interesting.

MAI EYES!

Well, what do YOU want out of HDR? HDR is the kind of thing I feel can be used and abused, and that definition is determined by what you feel is acceptable and unacceptable. Maybe you should post some HDR photos that you like from flickr, and then people can evaluate based on that.

Personally, I think that HDR should only be used for circumstances where there's a split between total light differences, and HDR is used to compensate that minimally, to the point that it wouldn't be an issue with most film types. As far as my thoughts go... your photos don't look like clown vomit, but they need some work between the extremes. #1 & 5 especially. I don't find feathering that extreme to be acceptable.

If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public!
If you want to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet!
Don't try to have a UER e-penis! You won't impress anyone! This especially means you, Minneapolis MN newbies!

I meant no disrespect, I'm new to HDR too... I just had a different idea of how it was supposed to be used

Fair. All is good. I have viewed so much HDR on the webs and it is so time consuming to find something that looks really good. Most is just concept work with tons of filters and loads of editing. I'm new to the tools with my program and ended up with this work. As I become more familiar with it I hope to have something better. Looking at it makes my eyes bleed and posting them here helps me gather advice to save my eyes and along with everyone else. XD

Uh... wow. High-passed all sorts to hell.

Everything about the HDR thingy that needs to be said has been. Be careful with what you do. And for the love of Batman, that smoke stack? My oh my....

Try easing off the HDR tools wagon and try something with multi-leveled exposures. It's like HDR but a little more subtle and cleaner. Waaaaayyyy cleaner.

2 and 3 are good, can hardly tell they're HRDed, which is the best kind IMO. Could stand the contrast turned down a bit, the brights are a little too bright.

1, YARGH, NO, that purple sky? And the tilting?

4 and 6, meh.

5 looks like it's nuclear. And not in a good way.

Keep trying, good HDR is a very fine line.

These are pretty good for being HDR

I'm about to attempt this for the first time myself. My opinion... I think they are good. I'm sure the more you do this, the better you will get but kudos for posting with being new to HDR. Constructive criticism is sometimes the best way to learn too.

Closer than you think~ When you dig up the past, you tend to get dirty.

I think you need to really concentrate on your framing and composure. Also, these all look really soft. I'm not sure if it's your camera, lens or the fact that your multiple exposures aren't lined up, but they're all really soft.

What are you using to process these?
