The small town of Kildare is close to the Kansas border, and as it was less than a mile from the highway, I decided to swing in and see if there was anything of interest. A heavy storm was bearing down on me, with lots of lightning and thunder in the distance, though the rain hadn't started as yet. The town wasn't much, your standard small agricultural community fading away, though it did still have an active school and grain elevator. Only a couple of building remained in old business district. Just as I was about to leave, I turned down Church street and came upon this. The storm was approaching fast, but I thought I'd have enough time for a quick look. Several things immediately struck me as odd. The first was that the building appeared to be in decent condition, though obviously not used, and the roof was fairly new. The mosquitoes were vicious, roaming in clouds, but strangely, around the property, not on it. The lightning was cracking closer as I circled the building. There was a high chain link fence completely surrounding the old church, with heavy chain and locks on the gate. The intriguing part was that the way the fence was constructed, it was set up more to keep something in rather than out. The storm was upon me, so I beat a hasty retreat to my truck as the rain began to fall in sheets. As I pulled away, was that demonic laughter I heard? Nah, just the wind.
