Hi all! I would really appreciate some constructive criticism as I feel like I'm in a stagnant place in terms of improvements in my shots, and I can't seem to figure out what I need to do to move forward. I debated on posting the ones I liked most or the ones I liked least from my last outing, and opted for the ones I liked best, since I'd like to move forward from there. I tend to try to capture the details about things and color more than the overall "here's a big room with a couch in it" or "here's a cash register" approach, if that helps frame a response.

Looking forward to your comments! Thanks!

Just be careful of taking photos that don't have a subject, which is the problem with your first two. If the texture/color/etc itself is the subject, than it has to be a lot more compelling and well executed. In both of those photos, you have a significant portion of the shot that is too dark (and, in the first one, out of focus to boot). The third one I think would be better if the point of sharp focus was further to the left/top.

Thank you, Arntzville. I appreciate you taking the time to respond, and your comments will definitely be taken into account the next time I go out. All that you said I can agree with, and hadn't really taken into account here.

The first shot, I liked, but I couldn't for the life of me tell you why. In part, I think it was the sense of depth, but thinking about what it was that made me take the shot, it really is the color and pattern of the flowery couch, and the tiles behind it that I wanted to capture.

That said, you're right. What interested me most isn't really the subject in that shot. *MY* eye goes straight to what interested me at the time I took the shot, but anyone else viewing it wouldn't necessarily be seeing what I saw from that shot. I already have an idea of how to re-shoot both the first and second photos to convey more of what I was actually after there. And for the third, I can agree there as well. The line your eye follows might be helped along by changing the focal point of that shot.

So, thanks for lending your perspective and causing me to REALLY step outside of that frame and take a fresh look. I truly appreciate it!

Thanks, 20SeVeN and Jerm IX! I think, of the three, that was the most successful.
