Katrina, 5 years later.

I moved to New Orleans one year ago. This is a collection of everything I've done covering the Katrina aftermath....from a different perspective. A much more intimate and emotional perspective is what I have tried to capture. There is a lot to look at.

Locations include: schools, hospitals, parks, churches, amusement parks, breweries, pools, factories, apartment complexes, and homes.

Wow! That one with the pool is crazy. In another 5 years it could be empty. New Orleans is about as close to Post-Apocalyptic as you can get. I'm going to look at the rest right now, felt like posting to say good job and stay safe!

Wow awesome pics. I find it insane how time seems to have stopped in these places, like the chalk boards in the schools still having writing from teachers in 2005.

Take only pictures, Leave only footprints.

Oh these photos are Ok, I guess....I dunno...there is just something heartless and smug and "score" about them being from a relatively recent natural disaster.
I don't know...one of those Intangibles, I guess, everyone left NO alone pretty much, and THIS presentation is what they avoided. Obviously there is a lot in N.O. that would interest all people interested in abandonments, but there is just such a smug GLEE here. I know this reaction could be knee jerk no matter how presented, but, I just can't help but hear the word "score" in every shot.

Your right, I guess I should have gone to all the locations that people have already shot a thousand times and posted on here. I bet they weren't looking for a "score" when they did that. Stupid. And how did "everyone leave NO alone"? What do you mean by that? The thing I find most interesting about this situation is the fact that there is decay that matches that of some of these buildings that have been abandoned for almost a hundred years, yet this was so recent. Things seem to be frozen in time, instead of just being systematically abandoned and left to rot. Also, I think it's important to document this while it's still an option. One of the schools has already been demolished. I guess I should respect your opinion though.

It's kinda THOSE details that were lacking. It was plopped out with pure..."My stuff is different than others", and that was all. Not saying there should be a feel good sob story. I very much pay attention to your remark about things looking like all other abandonments, etc. Perhaps I was too foreward, I don't want to rub my original take in, seriously, I (and I am nobody/I know) would enjoy hearing your impressions. I did think a little before I said what I said, and I went to your SMUG link etc, and all I could really see was "New Orleans: Blam". It's quite possible you were understating, and I took it wrong. Please do tell some stories...seriously, and not sarcastically I say that.

I see what you're saying. I really wasn't trying to present it like that. I was talking specifically about photos of the new orleans katrina aftermath in general. I guess it was a stupid thing to say on an urbex website because most people are going to be presenting the same material as me.

Thanks for taking my remarks OK. I would certainly be rummaging if I was down there. From trips to N.O. like 30 years ago, I can only just imagine what abandonments are like down there under even normal circumstances. I recall renting a room in a transient hotel there when I was about 19. Hot as HELL.
And when I came out of the shower there was nearly a footlong ROACH type thing on the bedroom wall. I whipped my towell off and crunched it so loud and it still ran away. Freaking prehistoric critters in that humidity. I can just picture them thriving on all these places. Your photos were Good.
