I actually quite like this picture. I think the yellow handrail and pipes frame the entire image and lighten up the dark surrounding areas.

For me, the only thing that would have added more to the image is if there was more light on the right door as it's a bit dark. There's only so much sparkle you can add to a boiler shot. Otherwise great shot.

Everything is sweetened by risk.

It's a forum called Photo Critiques. . .

Its a place to be critiqued. To help, to advance, to improve. If you don't want any help don't put anything up here.

I don't put much up here either, but I should do some. If I like a shot I took, and think it could be better, but I don't know how then . . .

And yes people should do a little more 'critiquing'.

http://www.pixiq.c...g-a-photo-critique

We all have stuff to learn, and develop our own way.

It's also a place where you can feel good about yourself if you need it.

I don't think this is (or should be) a place to make someone feel all warm and fuzzy. That would defeat the purpose of the "critique"...but it shouldn't be a place to get bashed for artistic preferences or lack of technical skill either. I see a bit too much of that going on here. So I'll stick to getting my critiques at school for now.

N00b sitting here scratching my head...granted, I just barely showed up to this site and I don't read every thread, but I have yet to see any real nastiness in this forum and certainly not on this thread? If someone offers completely unhelpful or stupid critique just move the fuck past it. I felt Clegg's post was valid and was similar to my own thoughts...for me, one of the most important things about a photo is whether or not I want to spend time looking at it (and that's different for everybody, some people like to look at things other people don't). So, I guess the snarling and claws seemed really uncalled for?

You won't ever see me posting my photos in here, because my equipment sucks and my photos suck and I already know that. You have to have a thicker skin to post your stuff in Critiques, no?

Yeah, you're right. I guess I'm kind of carrying over hostility from another (photo critique) thread, well a few threads, but one in particular that really bothered me. I've been a little on the defensive side because of it. I didn't really mean to come off so bitchy and/or take the attention away from the photograph. I was just responding to what Canadavey said about thinking of the UER Forums as a romper room and I got carried away.

No sweat boss. I wasn't speaking of you alone. It's all good.

This photo just begs for symmetry. It's an interesting enough subject to me, and it's exposed nicely, but if the doors to the firebox were open equally it would pop a little more.

I'm no expert.....
