Sucks though.

Craig, it's good to hear from you again. That story is awful, certainly a nightmarish situation that we all hope to never be involved in.

Glad you've still got a positive outlook on the exploration hobby, though. Keep it up and all the best!

Stories like this make me feel like cops should be hunted for sport.

I'm sorry to hear about your shitty experience, but I think (hope) it was a one off and you're safe to go out again.

UER folk are probably the best folk out there, when you sort through and pull out the bad apples. Dependable people, it's nice to hear you were represented without charge.

Sorry to hear everything that happened to you and your friend man

It sounds like a very crazy situation, something I hope I'd never have to experience. I could picture the whole thing going down when reading your account of it!

In the end you will be laid to rest where you belong. Bathed in the flames for your hatred and your ignorance. Your the symbol of masculinity, but I can beat king kong.

Haha! Chicks do love scars.

One of my friends told me about this event. I'm glad my friend healed fine. Are you planning on suing? I think if you did you would have a good case and could easily have that city fund all of your UE needs for years.

Woah, I'm really sorry to hear about your ordeal. Heck, after my first UE experience with cops (searched and let go) I was shaken up for a week. I don't blame you for being hesitant to get back into the swing of things, but I hope you do soon. I feel the same as you about UE; It's the reason I exist.

I guess I could also mention that I'm supposed to report to probation by phone since I'm out of town, but my probation officer refuses to EVER answer his phone or return voicemails. I've tried EVERYTHING to get hold of him. If I call the courthouse or police headquarters, the secretaries rudely refuse to do anything other than repeatedly forward me to my probation officer's direct line which he doesn't answer. It's starting to really worry me that I can't reach him because I can't comply with the terms of my probation. I have called him about two or three times during business hours every single weekday for the last few weeks. I have no idea what else to do...

Woa, that's some crazy shit right here. I sincerely hope that'll get back on your UE legs soon.

As for that probation officer, have you got any way to get a meeting with him? Or just simply show up at the cop station and see what you can do ...

Damn, these cops are really f- up ...

Start recording the calls and messages you leave ASAP.

If your phone doesn't currently have an option to do this (many do, it's just kinda hidden) you may also be able to grab an app that does.

If all else fails put it on speaker phone and get a cheap recorder from any office supply store.

For the slight amount of inconvenience it may cause you to go out and get the thing, a recording may be your only provable defense.

Craig, shitty story for sure. there is no way you guys should have had to go through that for simple trespass. especially in this country.

youre going to do what you want obviously but in my opinion not disclosing the city you were in is doing a huge disservice to the rest of the active explorers on this site. its also protecting the organized gang that trampled on you and your friends rights.

I'd hate to see another explorer going to _________ city just to type a similar story with possibly worse consequences.

how would you feel if the next urban explorer in this city was shot by a trigger happy over zealous cop. (yeah, I know thats extreme, but I bet you NEVER thought you'd be greeted by a swat team and a dog would gnaw on your buddies leg)

sorry you had to endure this steaming pile of bullshit but not disclosing where you were is protecting the wrong people.

just my 2 cents

I hope everything works out well for you in the end.
as with most things like this, as time passes you'll ease back in and in a few months thing will go back to being somewhat normal (but never the same)
good luck man.

That sucks DJ Craig. What a terrible experience.

I think this site should have a forum for "UE Horror Stories" where cautionary threads like this one can get copied and filed. Keeping track of real-life experiences like this would be helpful to the UE community. And I have to agree with Speed here that at least releasing the name of the city might help people escape a similar fate.

Wow, if something like this happened to Cantaloopay or Dresden I would have gone apeshit all over those cops! (that's just a Mom thing)
It sounds like when they told your friend "If he accepted medical treatment, he would have to wait many hours in the ER, and then many more hours in jail as they dealt with the paperwork and that we would BOTH end up spending the night in jail. If, on the other hand, he declined medical treatment, we'd be out of jail within an hour or two and he could seek medical treatment on his own" that they were just covering their asses. If he had opted to accept medical treatment "they" would have had to fill out reports, leaving a paper trail on the incident that your friend could have used against them if he wanted to sue for use of excessive force. If I were you I would start your own paper trail. When you phone your probation officer have a couple of witnesses present when you do it and make sure they can hear what's being said on both ends, write down the time and date you made the call and have them witness (sign it) also write down what you hear when you call and any messages left, especially if you do happen to speak with him. Can you get a record from you phone provider that lists calls made and received? If you can definitely get that as proof of calls you made and prove that he didn't call you back (so he can't say you didn't answer when in fact he never called) I don't know about there but here if you make a recording of a call you need to make a transcript of the call, the recording is not submittable in court but the transcript is. Also you have to tell the person on the other end they are being recorded. What does your lawyer friend say about it?
That all said I'm glad you and your friend are okay.

That totally sucks, man, but I guess it could have been a lot worse. At least they didn't give you a felony/jail time.

And for real, fuck the ghetto. Like you said, every place in the ghetto is so scrapped and tagged it's not even worth it.

I'm guessing you're missing the part where Craig stated HE CAN'T GET A HOLD OF THE PROBATION OFFICER. the guy won't answer the phone or return his many calls.

The kid wants to pay his debt. He isn't complaining about it.
He can't get anyone on the phone so he can make the arraignments.

Regarding suing the police:

As a teenager I worked as an ER tech in a busy Emergency Room. I've seen heinous acts of excessive force and police brutality. The first patient I ever handled was a guy who the cops shot in the face. I'm sure they were aiming for his head.

The point is, cops bust heads in the line of duty every day. It's their job. Very very rarely do any of them get called on it. Even the high-profile cases never result in disciplinary action (anybody remember Rodney King?).

If your friend was walking down a public street minding his own business and they loosed their dogs that would be one thing. But they're covered by the fact they caught your friend in the act of breaking the law - in a notoriously bad neighborhood to boot.

Sueing the police would require a local judge to turn on his minions - the people who work in his department and with whom he works practically every day. Aint gonna happen over a dog bite.
