Lost Village of Dogs [katrina]

An cluster of apartment complexes east of New Orleans that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. This was one of the hardest hit areas. I was given the grand tour by a pack of wild dogs. This was their territory and they made damn sure I knew it. One took a special interest in me.

Sorry for the harsh light, it was mid day. I was on my way back from volunteering planting marsh grasses that were destroyed by Katrina and I saw these and knew what must be done.

thats so sad. they probably all lived there and were left behind. did you give any of them a home? they seem like peoples pets that were just left and people never got back to come and save them

lol gosh guys, you all want me to pile 10+ wild dogs into my car? I already have enough dogs. I would if I could. They looked surprisingly well fed and there were all sorts of cow bones all over the property. I'm thinking someone must be feeding them.

Honestly, I would call ASPCA if they seemed like they were horribly neglected. But they all looked like they were well fed and living a much happier life than being taken from each other, thrown in single cages and euthanized.

no trust me, i worked up until recently with a local spca in ct. we had dogs and cats that were rescued bc of katrina sent to us and found them new homes. they are literally just running rampant down there. so it's sad to me on a more personal level bc i witnessed the conditions some of the animals had come to us in. and i agree, some are just being caught and euthanized, however, there are a lot of good animal advocate programs still working down there to try and help, like spaying and neutering etc etc
