Very true...also agree with the let someone know where you are rule as well...that's all very good advice

i as a rule of thumb bc of some encounters with others like scrappers or a homeless person always let at least 2 or 3 people know the location of where im going, also good if you get arrested bc they can come bail you out, and now always go with someone.

glad you made it out of there! and glad that this was a big ass wake up call for you! becoming complaisant and thinking you'll be ok is always the first step towards possibly being fucked royally and getting hurt.

I guess it can't be said that "they are more scared of you, than you are of them" when referring to angry people engaging in clandestine activities.

At left with minimal contact. Sometimes confrontation can deal unforeseen benefits. I don't think that would have been the case here.

I am planning a return trip to FairView in about 2 weeks and I need 'a few good men' to go with me, I've already got 2 going but the more the merrier here.

You need to be cool with dodging motion sensors and cameras to get in, then it's all unguarded, and of course, angry hobos. No weapons allowed, but pocketknives and wasp or pepper spray are a must... PM me if interested.

I'm glad you made it out safely. It would have sucked to see you disappear from the site; I like your posts.

Good luck on the return trip.

yeah, I know you shouldn't UE alone, but I'm a real adrenaline and solitude junkie, sorta like those guys who solo climb at yosemite on the big walls, or circumnavigate alaska alone, or sail solo around the world. I know its dangerous, but I cant help myself.

I think those guys take it to a new level

I'm telling you we need that flare gun. Just one shot POP slows down any pursuers and brings cops.

I don't know how I haven't run into a situation like this. I've done everything solo in New Orleans in some neighborhoods that people wouldn't even set foot in.

Wow, your story scared the CRAP out of me. I am so scared of that happening. Especially as a girl.

That reminds me of one time in New Orleans East and we stumbled onto some old apartments heavily damaged by Katrina and missing the roof or all the windows busted out. I almost went into one of them when a tied up dog scared the SHIT out of me and I heard some noise from inside. I hurried back to the car where my husband was watching my back, only to then see this guy...laying in the grass...just laying there...not awake? who knows. I dont know how I missed seeing him when I walked to the apartments, but he was like 8 feet from me. My husband was freaking out because he didnt want to make noise and rouse the guy if that wouldve been possible...with him looking...not awake and all.

So yeah, dude just laying in the grass, and squatters in an apartment building with no rood and no electricity. I'm glad I turned back when I did, that couldve been bad. Still freaks me out.

Amen. I just gotta explore, can't help myself. It's nice to have a few friends along but friends have stuff goin on and schedules don't always jibe, so if I gotta go it alone I do. I can't stand much more than a couple days thinking about something that only took me a few seconds to talk myself in to. That's why I'm on here though, to add a few friends to my list of people to explore with.

If those guys would've ran up on like 7 explorers they might've had a different attitude about the whole deal. On the other hand, that blood could've been from the person they just cut and were actively dismembering when they heard you coming. Seven people would've increased the liability factor exponentially, nearly guaranteeing that one or more of your party is gonna get wounded if these guys were serious about hurting someone. Carrying a deadly weapon while exploring is great if you don't mind taking someone out. As a show of force that you aren't really willing to use you're just bringing your attacker a weapon to hurt you with. I'm not ok with taking someone out so I just pack light to beat a hasty retreat if needed. Although, the increased adrenaline flow that comes from exploring risky areas puts ones senses on edge and a clear headed explorer flowing with adrenaline would handle some basers like Chuck Norris fending off a few fourth graders if need be. Unless they're packin heat. Damn. I guess nothing is really safe and I should just stay home and look at pictures of other peoples explorations on the internet.

Nice! What kind of can is that on your P22?

And so when man and horse go down
Beneath a saber keen,
Or in a roaring charge of fierce melee You stop a bullet clean, And the hostiles come to get your scalp, Just empty your canteen, And put your pistol to your head And go to Fiddlers' Green.
