The neighborhood watch

So I posted in a thread recently that I could spit out my window and hit four abandoned buildings. It's true. Directly across the street from me is an old store, two outbuildings and a house all on the same corner.

Jackpot, right? Not so much. It's a busy intersection, the cops patrol it often, and worst of all, people in this town are the nosiest looky-loos in existence. Just me standing on the sidewalk taking photos of some boarded up locations elsewhere in town had people coming out of every nearby house to stand and gawk at me.

So I'm thinking, no way am I ever getting in without getting busted. I don't know of a POE yet, so I thought I'd scout that at something like 2 am and then predawn the actual entry, but this is the kind of small town that has old biddies peeking out of their curtains at all hours of the night. The day we moved in here, my husband dinged a structure with our U-haul, no biggie, and within the hour someone had called the landlady at her home and told her that we'd crashed into a building and there were cops everywhere. Yeah. That's what I'm working with here.

So, to make a long ramble even longer: got any creative ideas on how to get in undetected? Possibly more than once since there are four buildings? Or should i just let this one go?

this is easy.

have someone dress up like a (engineer type guy) hard hat and such and have him seem like hes talking to you near the buildings. then ppl will assume o blah blah helping take photos for structure security blah blah

or get on your phone if youre alone and act like your talking to mister big money sell me some pics for an article. talk reallll loud like O SURE ILL TAKE PICS FOR THAT ARTICLE. HOW MUCH WILL I GET?2000? MAKE IT 5G'S AND YOU GOT YOURSELF A DEAL.

or find a cat on the road. claim it as yours. walk the cat (yes walk it) on a lease near the POE. then have the cat break away and run into the place. and there....now u gotta go get it.

ive got thousands of more ideas if these dont help...

+1.

One thing I've had good success with twice, but ONLY in residential neighborhoods: Go at 2 or 3 am and recon the place, find a POE you know is solid because you get one legit try at this. Go back around noon or 2pm with a friend and a frisbee and very light packs, like, water, camera, first aid kit and a pack of smokes in a small drawbag. Start playing some frisbee in the street or a vacant lot nearby... Remember, this ONLY works in residential neighborhoods. Play for a half hour or so, and slowly gravitate towards the abandonment until you are playing on the grounds of the abandonment. Play frisbee there for another half hour or so, and if nobody comes in that half hour, you'll probably be golden. Casually lob the frisbee towards the POE, hustle after it with your friend and duck in the POE like a champ. After the first 15 minutes or so any nearby old crones will have lost interest, because even the sandiest old cooch isn't going to call the cops on a couple of people enjoying a game of frisbee. Keep a VERY low profile in the abandonment, in case the crones get bored of Maury Povich and remember you, when you're ready to go, get back to the POE and book it.

small towns don't usually have much crime--- that's why even the smallest little thing gets sensationalized.

If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public!
If you want to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet!

This. Our local news "crime" reports are things like, "A weedeater was stolen from the yard of Billy Bob Shifflett last night."

Ya know, in my 1 a.m. half asleepness, I didn't even think about just asking someone. That's an absolute last resort, though, as in no possible POE. I've asked to get into two other buildings in this town and been denied, so my hopes are not high for that method.

It hasn't worked for me yet. One time I almost won over a sweet old lady with this line, but her brother shut me down. Asshole.

Don't be fooled, they are all in bed by 10pm. Even on Saturday, unless you're in a big city, almost everything closes by 11pm; small towns are like 8pm.

Except for bars. Friday/Saturday (and Thursday in college towns) are the best nights to pull of non-infrastructure. The cops are busy on drunk patrol and what else do people have to do in small communities but get plastered?

Good point. I am not a fan of night explores though. I'm petrified of the dark in my OWN home. I would recon a POE at night but that's it. Plus getting caught at night automatically makes you 100x more shady. :/
